Cheerleaders

It would hard to argue that, over the many decades, the Belfast Telegraph, second only to Malcolm Brodie(R.I.P.), have been the most ardent "cheerleaders" for the once famous Blues from Windsor Park.

The Crues. and Cliftonville have now dominated local football for the past few years and this is good for a league that is on life-support judging by the near empty stadia each week-end.

A recent article by the BT triggers my comment. The implication was that Crusaders were stumbling along, grinding out lucky wins which were keeping their beloved Blues from first place was a serving of sour grapes. Linfield does not have an inherent right to being champions! Yes, they have the nicest stadium (thank-you tax payers), the largest following, the most money and in past years, many of the best stars (including the late, great and imported Jackie Milburn), but Crusaders and Cliftonville have built their clubs from the ground up and, without them, there would be no need for Linfield. So, Belfast Telegraph, start encouraging the league as a whole and not just the Blues.

Ah Globaled, what about you.
Glad to see you’re back in form with your Anti Linfield comments, really missed them.

In all seriousness you have a valid point. Even though Baxter has admitted grinding results out there is nothing lucky about their current form. Takes a good team to keep scoring so many late goals and they have the same winning mentality as Ferguson’s Man Utd team, a mentality missing from the current Linfield team.
Really thought we were back on track last few weeks, but as it stands Crusaders will comfortably win the League this season. Not a great fan of their aggressive style but it works.

Could be worse for us though. Could have a resurgent Glentoran team back competing but thank the Lord they are crap.

Good to see an Irish League Post. Well done

Hey Earl,
I was gone for a few days. I was arrested by the Blues Secret Service and spent 3 days in jail!

In all seriousness I grew up in the shadow of the Oval, but I had lots of friends who were Linfield supporters. In fact, one of my all time favorite players, in the Sammy Hughes, Jimmy Murdoch, Eric Trevorrow, Wilbur Cush, Jimmy Jones etc. years, was Tommy Dickson (The Duke of Windsor)!

My only point, if I had one, was give the Crues. and the Reds. their due. Without them over the past few years there might be no Irish league.

By the way, stay alert! I may strike at any time.
