Players are wearing rainbow laces today and on a personal level, I wish gay players felt ok about being honest in this day and age.
Easy for me to say, but surely the homophobic muppets are nothing to fear on the pitch, and dodgy chants could be policed by us.
A guy brought a natzi fleg to a Linfield game when the NF were strong, and he was advised accordingly.
I mind Clive Best for west ham on the Big match, being the only black player on tv, then the guys at West Brom etc, and these boys took racist abuse from stupid fans.A gay player may take abuse at the start, being first to come out, but I am confident if the fans support the boys brave enough to say they are gay, we can move forward and end this taboo.
All banter welcome fae Pointy and co, but a wee serious fitba discussion does no harm.

remember Justin Fashanu, he was black and gay and he took loads of stick back in the 80's but thankfully we've moved on from that type of abhorrent behaviour. Tragically him coming out lead to him no longer being with us.

I don't need to know who someone shares their bed with. If a footballer or anyone else decides to reveal they are gay then of course they shouldn't receive abuse from colleagues or fans but honestly, who cares?
Enabling a gay footballer to feel confident enough to publically announce their sexuality is admirable but the fanfare that greets the first to out himself will be a huge cringe. Do we really see gay people as so different? Surely they are just people.

It's a sad reflection on the game that gay footballers still can't be open about their sexuality if they want. Shows the game to be stuck in the dark ages still, although I fell it's only a matter of time before the first person comes out before more and more do too, and the taboo is broken.

Fact is, after all this time, no player currently kicking has felt safe coming out, even quietly and with no fanfare..
There is still homophobia, racism and sectaranism in fitba, along with other nasty stuff.
We do not need to know what people do in bed, btw, and yes, gay people are simply people.
