Liverpool 2-0 Sunderland Live Match Thread

Sat, 26 Nov 2016 Premier League, Anfield, 3pm ko.

Karius, Clyne, Matip, Loveren, Milner, Hendo, Wij, Can, Cout, Firm, Mane

Head-to-head

Sunderland are winless in eight meetings since a 1-0 home victory in March 2012.
Liverpool are currently unbeaten in 17 league games against Sunderland at Anfield (W8, D9), plus a League Cup victory. Their last home defeat in this fixture came in the top flight in October 1983 when Gary Rowell's penalty was the only goal.

Liverpool
Liverpool have gone 10 league matches without defeat, winning seven and drawing three.
Jurgen Klopp's side have earned an unrivalled 52 points from 25 Premier League games since drawing with Sunderland at Anfield on 6 February.
That game was the first in a current 13-match unbeaten league run at home (W8, D5).
They have earned nine points more this season compared to the corresponding fixtures in 2015-16. Only Watford, with 10 points, have shown greater improvement.
The Reds are the division's leading scorers with 30 goals despite being held to a 0-0 draw last weekend, when they only managed two shots on target.
Goalkeeper Simon Mignolet made 90 Premier League appearances for Sunderland between 2010-13, while Jordan Henderson scored three goals in 71 top-flight games for the club between 2008-11.

Sunderland
Back-to-back victories have lifted Sunderland off the foot of the table.
They have not won three league games in a row since a four-match streak in April and May 2014. That was also the last time the Back Cats won successive away matches.
The Black Cats have had three players sent off this season, more than any other Premier League side.
Jermain Defoe has scored 18 Premier League goals in 2016, the third highest tally behind Sergio Aguero (25) and Harry Kane (19).

Nice to see young Ben getting a look in already.

Klopp on Coutinho: "It is an ankle injury but we can’t say anymore until we see a scan. Firmino got a knock on the calf as well."

Klopp: I am not sure if I have ever played against a more defensive team than today. Man marking Coutinho, Anichebe at left back...

Klopp on Coutinho: Pain gets better, already when I saw him at half time the pain was much better. We have to wait.

That's the result we want really, that or the draw!

I want a draw or Chelsea win.

I want the leading pack to consist of four, not five teams. That way you might not win the league but no chance of missing out on top 4. Being in the title race all season only to finish fifth would be terrible.

Having top 4 wrapped up early would mean less pressure in the last 5 or 10 games, which IMO would be absolutely monumental for a team in our position.

Completely disagree Mamba.

If we are in the title race there will be monumental pressure on us whether we are one of two or one of 8.

I'm not worried about 4th. I'm targeting first and I think the manager and players are too.

We might not get it, but I'd rather see genuine title rivals getting beat.

Spurs aren't going to win the title. Chelsea continuing to lose big games would be great for us as that's the one question mark against them this season so far, and they have Man City next.

Yeah but the possibility of finishing outside the CL places is additional pressure that we could do without.
