For the first time in a fair few games we might actually get involvement by another teams fans. Brace yourself lads, this could be an interesting few days.
Newcastle are playing Hull tonight, so we should have an idea who we will line up against on Friday night. Whilst their six changes meant a 1-0 loss, our three changes meant a 5-2 win away. No doubt they'll be more changes. It's a European thing.
They have an expensively assembled squad, where the lump that is Grant Hanley cost 5m. Ours is a craftily cobbled together squad on a relative shoestring, the only player over a million being Britt I think.
Anyway, millions can mean nothing as Blackburn proved. The best team on paper also means nothing. I'd never have thought we'd beat Barnsley without Lichaj, Pinillos and Britt. Of course the wounded Geordie is a fearsome beast.
The team I think we'll put out is this:
Stojkovic
Mancienne Perquis Worrall Mills Lichaj
Lansbury Lam Kasami
Osborn Vellios
Henderson, Fox, Vaughan, Cash, Carayol, Bendtner, Assombalonga
I'd prefer to start with Vaughan, Cash and Britt in that lineup. But Vellios deserves to keep his spot and Vaughan and Cash probably are not fit enough to start. It's a cracking bench though, with probably more match winners on it, than in the first eleven.
I think we have a good chance of winning this. Our defence is still poor, but we seem to have a good shape and balance to the side. Plus, we like scoring. My prediction, despite all the potential abuse is 3-2. Especially if Hull take Newcastle to extra time.

Good analysis Rev.
Even though Shelvey and Rafa left ages ago Liverpool are still the victims.
If I'd have been reffing even if he hadn't kicked out at Henri I'd have sent him off for being a kn0b, and a poor man's Robbie Savage

I have never seen a game were one team suffered these many poor decisions from a referee. Newcastle are right to be upset. Both red cards were wrong. Shelvey tried a kick at Lansbury, who kicked Shelvey first, but he missed him. Lansbury held his face as if the kick hit his face. So the resulted penalty was wrong. The second red card and penalty incident was a complete joke. Lansbury lost control and fell down. Newcastle were wrongly denied a goal and penalty. Forest fist goal was a handball. I could go on and on.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I've only seen the Sky replay, but I don't get the stuff about Lans holding his face. As Shelvey falls on top of him, Lansbury does appear to raise his foot, but after Shelvey lands he clearly swings a boot and catches Lansbury in the balls, which is what he looks to be clutching afterwards.
Sure, overreaction (and maybe provocation) from Lans, but a clear penalty and red card. After the number of times we've been penalised for far less (Vaughan's red against Brum last season for foot up!), it's a refreshing change to see refs giving decisions our way.
And second red, Dummet gets caught the wrong side and ploughs into the back of Lansbury, who's entitled to stop and get the ball under control. Two-handed push in the back is a clear penalty again. And sod the 'rules have changed' argument, Lam was sent off recently for losing possession 40 yards out and pulling the man back (who went down at least as easily and theatrically as Lans did).

This weekend has proven one thing, the Championship is anyone's guess. Reading got found out, so too did Brum, Derby are over Pearson, Norwich thrash Brentford... and Newcastle are the mardiest club in Britain.

Newcastle have successfully appealed both red cards - I guarantee you now that if it was two Forest players, they'd have had their bans extended. %&*%

I don't see how the first red can be overturned when it was given by the linesman? who was level with the incident. The camera was following the ball so there isn't any footage of how it all kicked off, or is there?
After some of the pretty terrible decisions given against us and upheld by the FA I'm cheesed off by this.

Pretty dumb, but at least we got 3 points and the FA can't take those away. Or can they?

If that isn't biased, I don't know what is?! What does that say to the linesman who was brave enough to react to what he saw and grab the ref'a attention?

I get the feeling that the volume and veracity of the Geordie's moaning had a bearing on the FA's decision...
