By a strange quirk of fate the first four teams to win the League and Cup Double have been drawn against each other in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup. The only Two Double Winners from the 19th century versus the first two from the Twentieth Century.
Tottenham v Aston Villa
Preston North End v Arsenal
Preston North End 1888-89
Aston Villa 1896-97
Tottenham 1960-61
Arsenal 1970-71
Football has a way of throwing up these sort of matches from time to time.

Yeah Sandy these historical articles are truly awful, please just come back and be normal.
I mean you annoyed me SO much, but at least the entertainment value was there. This board needs livening up one way or another

You don't need me, you have that clown Chronic. I see he wants Spurs to lose tomorrow. Supporters like that truely disgust me.

He is very anti Ropey League for sure

Good to hear. Was admittedly a bit concerned about the sudden nature of your ja606 retirement.

Sandy, in the spirit of your historical articles. Spurs v Villa, I was at the '71 League Cup final to see Chivers get a brace in a 2-0 win as I'm sure you remember. It's funny how as a young lad you go to watch games all over the place and not just you're own team. If memory serves I seem to remember Villa were in the third tier at the time.

Yes you are correct mate, Villa were third division, and Chivers scored a couple in the last 10 minutes. As you say when you are you are younger you go to games of all sorts. I used to be a regular at the Bridge in the 60s, I had a mate from college who lived in the King's Road, funny enough he was actually a Spurs man, but we used to go to evening games at Stamford Bridge, I used to go to Charlton and QPR a fair bit as well. If there was an evening game on in London, I was usually there. I once even took a girlfriend to Highbury to see Arsenal play Leeds. Honestly what was I thinking.
