Keaton Jennings is likely to make his test debut for England in the next Test v India.
He just scraped into the England side after 4 years playing county before the ECB announced the qualifying period was 7 years.
- Born: South Africa
- Captained the South Africa Under 19's against England in 2011
- His Father is a former player & coach of South Africa.
Keaton Jennings has a South African accent and his cricketing heroes growing up were all Australian but he says he feels “very English" and ready to make his Test debut this week against India.

Serial - if lets say Joe Root - Came through England's coaching system, represented and captained England and Under 19's and was highly regarded and talked about, but then jumped ship, lived in India for 4 years and then started playing for them...we would be hearing a different tune from some England fans.

Oh my word. What is the point in trying to educate half wits like yourself.
To repeat... you are a hypocrite because you have no sort of moral objection to English born people supporting India/Pakistan etc yet you have an apparent moral objection to a lad playing his cricket for another nation despite the fact that his mother comes from the SAME nation and the fact he has lived in the same country for over 4 years.

If Joe Root did the above, had an Indian mom and considered himself Indian then fine by me.

*bangs head against desk*
I have an issue because he was coached in South Africa and represented and Captained the South African Under 19's team.
I do have an objection with this.
p.s. Supporting and Representing are quite different.

When England were struggling with their middle order - in came KP and Trott
When they needed some hitters - in came Morgan
Struggling for an opening partner for Cook - in came Keaton.
Wonder who the ECB will sign in January's transfer window? a spinner maybe?

Players like Strauss, Stokes, Prior have been bought up being English despite being born abroad but the like of Trott, Morgan and this new guy are only English due to the riches.
Trott was celebrating a SA series win against England with Grahame Smith, Kallis and co and then all of a sudden decided to become English.
Rugby is the same and i'm glad football even though we are poor has not gone down this route.

its a funny old debate this really
both my parents were born abroad, so was i but came here as a kid. I see myself as british as its all i know but always supported Pakistan as did siblings born here simply due to family really
I was always told support England as that is where you live/work etc and fair enough. Only time I had issues with it is when politicians made statements back in the day
By that notion, ie support where you are, i dont ee how then someone like keaton should be happily accepted into england squad
Its having your cake and eating it, no?
I would have happily played for england myself over pakistan
weird no?

This guy is 100℅ SA. Born over there and then captained the u19. Came over to England and 4 years later in the England team.
As always the England motto is if in doubt call up a South African.
