Didn't know this, but Paul Mitchell is still going to be overseeing the January window, and won't be allowed to leave until we get a replacement:
https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/dec/13/tottenham-hotspur-paul-mitchell-recruitment-notice-period
"Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are holding the head of recruitment, Paul Mitchell – who tendered his resignation in August – to a 16-month notice period as they seek to find a replacement. It has also emerged that the international scout, Ian Broomfield, has left the club.
Mitchell is not expected to serve the full term, which would take him up to the end of 2017, but it looks likely he will remain in situ for the January transfer window and, possibly, be asked to work towards next summer."
The whole article is well worth a read.
Must admit I'm not convinced about player recruitment at the Lane at the moment. Mitchell not wanting to work there must indicate that something isn't great - my guess (and it is a guess) is the club weren't moving for players that he thought we should be.
Also:
"The club’s recruitment drive from last summer, when £70m was spent on Victor Wanyama, Vincent Janssen, Moussa Sissoko and Georges-Kévin Nkoudou" ...
When it's laid out so black and white, that's not particularly great really is it
We really need two wins from the next two to kick start this season.
Mitchell and scouting

People really are quick to jump the gun. There is no evidence to suggest that Mitchell is responsible for all of our summer signings.
I think the problem for Mitchell was that his recommendations were either disregarded or they wouldn't spend the money on them.
Apparently he was an advocate for signing Boufal which never happened. Sissoko I can't imagine being anything other than a last minute deal where Poch forced Levy's hand and Newcastle able to negotiate very favourable terms.
Just get all necessary business done early and then go for one deadline signing IF the right one becomes available. What we do is wait for deadline signing for the necessary business and when it doesn't come to fruition we buy whatever's available next.

Most sources have it as £30m but the fee is paid over the 5 years. In which case we'd still have to pay £30m regardless of him staying for 6 months or 5+ years

Exactly seen a few people mention about the instalments but reality is we still pay £30m to Newcastle what ever the amount of time Sissoko is with us

This article says we only pay the full 30m if he stayus the duration

Lets be honest, I can't see Levy agreeing to pay 5m a year for a player who would eventually cost us 30m and then at 32 have no re-sale value, can you? I think its 5m per year for so long as he stays.

So we sell him in the summer and Newcastle only get £5m
Doesn't work like that buddy.
You get a Tv for £1000 paying £100 a month for 10 months.
Even if you sell the Tv 6 months later you still got to pay the remaining balance to the company who you bought the Tv from.
Either from your own pocket or from the money you recieve from the new owner it still gets paid

Just quoting the article mate, same way the 30m figure has come from various article

Also you do realise pretty much all transfers balance gets paid over a certain duration

Absolutely no chance that's the case. Would mean we could get him at a cut price and then potentially sell him for £15m for example in the summer. Means we make a profit whilst shafting Newcastle out of money essentially. Can't imagine any club sanctioning that sort of deal
If that was allowed then surely we should go and bid £90m over 5 for Thiago from Bayern but sell him for a whole lot more after 1 year etc....

I do, like I said fella, I'm just quoting the article

The media report any old shart regarding transfer fees at times, for example they have regularly been reporting Lamela`s fee as £30m since the day he signed, in reality it was a potential total outlay of 30m euros, with around 6.5m euros of that in add ons, so way less than the 30 million pounds the sensationalist media like to report.
I still think Sissoko will do well, he looked very good off the bench the other day.
