So, another transfer window is set to open and once again we are linked with Julian Draxler. He looks certain to leave Wolfsburg this January and as usual we are one of the favourites to sign him.
But what is the attraction? The majority of times I have seen him he has been ineffectual. Definitely no better than what we have.
His stats must be impressive? Well, no.
His best Bundesliga season in terms of stats was 12/13. He scored 10 and got 4 assists. Compare that to Theo Walcott this season (10 goals, 2 assists) or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (6 goals, 6 assists) and we aren't even halfway through the season and neither (Ox especially) is starting every week.
In fact 12/13 and last season were the only times he managed to score more than twice in a league season. His assists record is not making up for the lack of goals either.
His best form probably came when he was moved centrally for Schalke (I think that was 12/13 when Spurs signed Holtby from them). Cannot see him replacing Ozil, and it is a role he has rarely been given since then.
Yes, he has age on his side, he is only 23. Wolfsburg have been shocking this season, but wouldn't you expect a star man like Draxler is touted to be to stand up? No goals, no assists, and his performances have been well below par. In fact he has only been involved in one win all season, and the first game he missed coincided with a 3-0 win.
Personally I don't think we will sign anyone in January, and Julian Draxler is one player I wouldn't lose sleep over missing out on.

Haven't seen Draxler lately.
But surely he can't be as bad as Ox (who's terrible).

He has massively regressed, Dubbed.
He had several injury problems the last few months and seasons firstly. The Wolfsburg situation didnt help his development either.
I rate him personally but he has a mountain to climb to be where he used to be once. Maybe a move and a new beginning will help him.
Wouldnt pay over the odds for me. Dont forget that big clubs will make offers for him.

Draxler has the qualities to be a cracking player and I'd certainly have him over Ox, cos he's more technically proficient and more effective in his link-up play. At least, this was my impression of him. Don't watch the Bundesliga like I used to.

An awfully long article for a layer you wouldn't want but ultimately you're right
We're not crying out for a player like him and at best he's a replacement for Ox or Xhaka without being obviously better

I'd rather see us go for someone like Mahrez who I think is 25-26. I can't see any reason why he couldn't play alongside Ozil cutting in from the wing or just in front of the DM in a Cazorla quarterback type role.
Ranieri has said today that he won't stand in the way of anyone who wants to leave.
Worth a cheeky £20-25m bid?

I know the Arsenal board usually has articles of two words and smiley - but it shows how far JA has fallen if this is considered a long article

Yes he should hang his head and look at the floor. All posts should be a maximum of 3 words. Something like... Sack Wenger Now!, Sanchez quite good? or Kane sounds halfwitted!

That might be overkill and make the post too long to read. My attention span is that of an elderly goldfish so my mind would wander and err........... what was the question?
