Celtic and Rangers colts in League 2

From today's Daily Record

Malky Mackay’s first battle will be to persuade SPFL clubs to admit Celtic and Rangers’ colt teams to League Two as part of the SFA’s Project Brave package.

mailsport understands the inclusion of the two into the senior game will now be an integral part of the blueprint expected to to be debated and approved in January.

Serious negotiations with the league clubs are expected to begin early next month, with applications for the project’s hotly debated elite academy status beginning at the same time.

And despite initial plans for the major changes - which will include a huge streamlining of the current bloated system, summer season for all age groups to 16, increased use of the loan market and the return of reserve football - to be ready for 2018, it’s understood there have been moves in recent weeks to expedite parts of the process in time for next season.

Celtic made a below-the-radar approach to Championship club Morton two weeks ago for the use of Cappielow - where they already play their Development League games - on alternate Saturdays from this August.

And while Rangers have yet to decide on a venue, they have been on a charm offensive, meeting League One and Two clubs - whose votes will be crucial in seeing the Project over the line.

This is something I have wanted for a long time. Regular games with more purpose than what we have currently in front of crowds will benefit our young players greatly.

So what do you think? For it or against it and why?

If the point is to improve the overall standard of football in Scotland, the only way to do it is to go back to splitting league gates 50/50....at least that get some redistribution of wealth.

Anything short of that is just kid on window dressing. Shifting deck chairs on the titanic if you will.

And in fairness there's a lack of ambition by the non-OF clubs, most of which are happy to suckle at the teet of the Old Firm and take the scraps from the table.

In truth the game here should be scrapped and rebooted in the same way the Americans have had to do with their league. Dare I say their almost socialist/communist approach to football works better than our capitalist approach where the rich clubs get richer and the poor clubs get poorer.
