A view from the boundary

Yorkshire MOT
Born and bred in gods own county but working/living in manchester (its a hard life...) these last 30 years I thought I'd share my thoughts about tribalism. I've loved Leeds ever since seeing them for the 1st time in 1960 aged 7 and nothing will change that. However, perhaps a view from the wrong side of the Pennines maybe of interest. I'm passionate about winning the local derbies and those hopefully soon to recommence old battles against man.u, liverpool etc. but also cheered by 3 Tyke rivals in the top 6 and 3 in top 5 of div 1. Joe Root being rightly tipped as next England captain and without his fellow Yorkies Bairstow Rashid etc. where would England be? We'd most probably have won the title 3 x in a row had they not been contracted to England. The Yorkshire Olympics with Brownlee bros. etc....
We have a young team here with a bright manager. We will win games and lose others (really!) but this is possibly the best chance for some years we have of making progress and so it is so satisfying to hear the fantastic Leeds supporters shouting their support throughout matches home and away and more importantly when opposition start to look threatening.
My point? I sometimes feel the in fighting on this forum and the slagging off of other teams supporters does us little credit particularly in bad times. I've had years over here of reds bleating and believing they've a divine right to always winning. Well we are Leeds and we are where we are for obvious reasons. We get what we deserve and now fight passionately on the pitch and that's good enough for me. Good friendly witty banter yes but let's continue to be a little more inclusive and outward looking as this forum now seems to have become, yes much easier in winning times - let's face it we can afford to.
Leeds/Yorkshire/GB/Europe(definitely)/World/Galaxy/ Universe....
Ok, now I'll get my very hold coat which doesn't get to Elland Rd that often.
A very happy and healthy New Year to all and thanks particularly to you Highland for your great match threads!

I too have been away from Leeds & Yorkshire for many years (early 1970s) but like to think I remain loyal to my Yorkshire roots, especially LUFC. I'll be hoping to find a good stream of tonight's game (I recently found http://streamwoop.com/ which has proved pretty good so far), and look forward to another good result.

I'm enjoying the optimistic feelings that many posters are sharing. I wonder, though, would it feel as good if our recent successes had been achieved by expensive purchases & wages rather than by good coaching, hard work, commitment, team spirit, and of course strong support? It's so satisfying to see players such as Roofe (OK, he wasn't exactly cheap) and Viera gain confidence. Sure, it would be good to strengthen the squad next month, but for me holding on to the players we have is more important.

Cheers Molested and Jonny, nice to be appreciated, but the Matchday Threads I suppose are my way of making a small contribution to the forum, being exiled like yourselves means I can't get to games as often as i'd like (last time was Villa at home and it was a 7hr drive each way, bit much at my age ) it also means i'm not as knowledgeable as i'd like to be about the team and that's what ja606 and the posters on here give me, so the Matchday Threads go some way to thanking the rest of the posters for keeping me up to date with what's happening
Cheers Everyone

its good to talk on a forum, all about opinions, wouldn't it be such a dull place if there wasn't differences of opinion & fans of other teams coming on & having a pop....its great !!!!
