Ake or Christensen

Which of these two youngsters do you think will get the chance to leave a lasting impression on the first team next year?

With Terry and Ivanovic both out of contract at the end of the season, I can't help but feel that 1 or both of them will be gone.

Both are good ball playing players currently playing at CB. Whilst Christensen has probably been playing better for a couple of seasons, with Champions League experience- Ake is the more versatile of the two and may fit in better as a left footer playing in the left CB role.

The important thing is that we retain a good ball playing CB as back up to Luiz though- so maybe it will be Christensen to get the more game time.

How do you other fans seeing the two play out next season? Will we add to the CB's in the way of transfers also or is it not required with the players we have returning?

I have a sneaky feeling we'll let Terry go, keep Ivan as back up RB for a year ( ), bring in Christensen as backup CB and have Ake as backup LWB/other CB if needed. Leaving us with:

Cahill, Luiz, Azpi, Zouma, Christensen.

Moses, Ivan, Kane?

Alonso, Ake.

I do think that we'll look for another LWB too though.

Admittedly Cahill has stepped up this season, and it would be harsh to replace him now. That said, at times he is the most vounerable out of our back three atm. As I said Luiz is playing through injury and Virgil van Djik can cover for him atm and when Luiz is back, then he will have to fight for a place with Cahill.

Ake and Christensen will not be recalled this January. Their respective long season loan ends in the summer.

Obviously a player like Van Dijk is an upgrade on Cahill

Obviously ? Not sure about obviously at all there.

He clearly is. Cahill is average.

He's not in the top tier of defenders no but he's clearly above average.

He'll never really get the credit he deserves. People view him a certain way and attribute the shifts he puts in as good form. The thing is he's played most of his Chelsea career, bar last season in that kind of form.

He's a good header of the ball, got decent pace, great last ditch defender and very good on that ball.

I'd not be surprised to see his place under threat next year but we'd be mad to think about letting him go just yet.

Cahill isn't average and he's better than any CB you have at Utd. Cahill's a PL and CL winner, first choice England CB and he's been Chelsea team captain through this winning run.

Never seen the fuss Chelsea fans made over Cahill. Doesn't stand out at anything. Just a solid player made to look good with better, and lots of, defensive players around him. Each to their own, though.

Cahill is not my cup of tea, whenever I saw his name in the teem sheet, didn't feel me with confidence. But this season he has been really good though.
