I called it during the WIndies series, and I called it right. Pakistan were too complacent, and poor, against one of the worst teams in the world. I said you can't have bowlers going at 4rpo against this poor because, when you play really decent teams, you'll get punished.
And Pakistan have been severely punished these last 6 tests, losing each and every one. From number one in the world, they have tumbled to number 5, only one point above both New Zealand and Sri Lanka. Instead of fighting for number 1 or 2 spot, they've been battered down to the dregs of the table.
Misbah's form has been particularly disappointing, both with the bat and as captain. As poor as the batting has generally been, the team has been severely let down by the bowlers and fielding. You just cannot go around dropping decent players as they will eventually punish you.
The batting line up is actually quite strong and I was lauding it before the series started. Most of them have done enough to keep their places I believe, though there is an opportunity at opener.
Azhar Ali scored 406 runs at 81
Younus scored 298 runs at a shade under 60
Asad scored 239 at a shade under 40
Sarfraz scored 226 at 56.50
Misbah averaged 12. Babar averaged 11. Sami averaged 12. It's going to be very difficult if 3 of your top 7 score so few runs.
Australia had 4 bowlers who took 10 or more wickets and Pakistan had just one. Of those 4, one had an economy rate (ER) under two! The others had ERs of 3.24, 3.28 and 3.66.
Wahab, who took 11 wickets, had an ER of 4rpo. Yasir (8 wickets) had an ER of over 4.5. Rahat (ER 3.56), Imran Khan (ER 4.66), Sohail Khan (ER 4.22). Only Amir looked decent enough but he only took 5 wickets at 60s with an ER of 3.2.
Misbah should really go for allowing so many collapses under his watch, not scoring any runs and allowing poor bowlers to bowl absolute rubbish.
Mickey Mouse Arthur should also go for picking bowlers again and again who are proving that they aren't good enough and for not getting the fielding to a level of an international team.
These last 6 games have been, overall, quite pathetic. A few more catches per match and it could have been far better.
I'd keep those batsmen who averaged 40 and above for sure. Maybe Babar deserves a little more time as he has shown promise at times.
From the bowlers, I'd keep Amir, and only as you can't drop the lot of them.

And get rid f the captain who keeps bowling Hasan ALi even though he's gne for 100 runs in 9 overs when you have guys, with overs left, going at just over 6.
Madness.
