What causes a club to implode?

I genuinely feel sorry for West ham, as it wasn't to long ago it was us lurching from crisis to farce every other day.

They looked in such a strong place last season. Now, they can't seem to get anything right. They spent less time in Europe than a trip across the channel to the duty free in calais. theyre hovering above the relegation zone. Sitting in a different time zone to the pitch in their free stadium that they're determined to smash up. Releasing a special FA CUP strip that they weren't allowed to wear in their one solitary, embarrassing outing in the competition, and now their star player has thrown the toys out of the pram. Can't be fun being a hammer right now.

But what is it that causes a club to seemingly fall apart over a summer? West ham aren't the first and won't be the last, but is it just a case of bad management?

Over achievement, realisation that the club over-achieved, over-inflated ego that the over-achievement was down to the individual who now feels he is better than his club.
Over confident and vocal about it owners.
A manager who seems, by his summer TV appearances, more of a "character" than a tactical genius of a manager. A cheerleader type, who shines when the going is good but then becomes downcast and lacking inspiration when the tide turns.
Bad signings on pretty large wages. Andre Ayew hardly set the PL alight with Swansea, yet was a club record signing. The likes of Tore, Arbeloa, Zaza and Feghouli may have been cheap (loans and free transfers) but have shown to lack quality.

They are run by a load of cowboys, which doesn't help.

I agree. Bad decisions and bad management.

The move to the Olympic stadium was very very poorly done. their signing strategy was poor and gave a stick to be beaten with. AND they've blown their cup chances so are always under some pressure
