Yeah, unfortunately when a player really wants to go, they usually get their way.
Barca and Madrid have a habit of getting their targets to act like spoilt brats to get the move.

Look.
a) it gives him double his wages. we'd all sign that.
b) it rewards performance as over the past 6 months he's been twice the player and really stepped up
c) it secures him for another 2 years out til 2022 so means a vast fee is needed
d) it gives the whole playing squad a boost and the fans a boost on a vital match day.
Its all good IMO

This. Also Klopp said at the start of the season when there speculation that only Barca and Real would be a step up for him but he is best learning here first.

With that length of contract only Barca or Madrid (excluding china) will be able to afford him.
So.. he'll have to play magnificently to live upto the price tag.

Sure sign he will be signed by Barca in the summer. The same happened with Suarez before he was sold for big money

Suarez was a few years older than Coutinho when he left (27 or 28?). Coutinho could well move on at the same age but that would still give us 3 years and a huge fee.

He might leave depending how things go. However FSG have done the wise thing and ensured it will take a ridiculous amount to prize him away.

Not sure why anyone would think Coutinho signing a new contract is bad for LFC.
Does anyone expect most players to stay at the club they are at for the rest of their careers?
Doubt it.
Coutinho is a talent, he will have seen the club have confidence in him and will play with more confidence. Good for LFC.
If Barca or Real Madrid want to sign him, they will have to compensate Liverpool heavily, again good for LFC.
Rooney signed a new contract for £250k a week, still waiting for Real Madrid or Barcelona to make an offer for him!

Good news, hes been rewarded for his performances with a pay increase to 150k per week. Thats all there is to it as far as im concerned, its not like he hasn't earnt it. Not surprised there isnt a buy out clause, i dont think it was a situation where player or club were concerned about a potential exit so neither needed that reassurance.
