We deserve credit for last night!

We put in a really good shift last night and the players stepped up to give a good performance after what has gone on during January. Thanks goodness that's over by the way.

Chelsea are flying, have no injuries and playing with confidence. Whereas we are seriously lacking confidence missing players and had too many games in the space of a few weeks. Our squad isn't good enough I know but to have 9 games in one month is so hard on you fatigue wise, especially the way we play, and we are still out running most teams.

We've got issues with our goalkeeper. Clyne has missed the last few games, Matip is finding match fitness, Milner, Lallana and Firmino have run themselves into the ground, Henderson is still carrying an injury, Coutinho is again finding match fitness and Mane has just returned. That's 9 of our first 11 from the last month either missing, struggling with injury or just knackered from playing too many games. You compare this to Chelsea and they have pretty much had a settled team all season, no bad luck, no injuries and apart from Costa missing the odd game Conte has had nothing to decide.

No I'm not making excuses, I'm just making the point that we are still 4th in the league and nobody thought we would be their at the start of the season. We are still on for Champions League football and hopefully with a fully fit team, we will get some luck and be able to finish the season strongly.

All these opposition fans coming out of the woodwork makes me laugh. They were nowhere to be seen earlier on in the season and when we have a dip in form they kick us when we're down. Just you wait and see come end of the season it will be Liverpool, the fans and Klopp having the last laugh. YNWA

Should have our best team back out on the field against Hull for the first time since November is it?!

First time we can play Mane, Coutinho, Firmino and Lallana together since 6th November when we beat Watford 6-1. Funnily enough that was the game that made us go top of the league

To be honest I'm pretty confident about the rest of the season. We are close to feilding our strongest 11 and could potentially play this team every game for the rest of the season with ample rest and prep time between games, that alone will make us a far stronger side and should be more like we were in autumn as opposed to January.

All our top 4 rivals (not including Chelsea) have domestic and European games to contend with, while they're playing these games hopefully having to field as strong a team as possible we are resting and working on shape etc for each game, we all know how much better a side we are (or any side) with a week between games.

So taking all this on board, no major reliance on youth team players to plug gaps, barring injuries we play our best 11 every week makes me feel we can finish strongly to secure a top 4 spot.

I'm not that optimistic GB probably reckons we Liverpool can win the World Cup.

I do think we're better than is being made out though and while Jan was awful we played a mixed bag of teams throughout with very little time to prep etc. Now that's not really a great excuse as we should be able to manage this number of games but we don't have the squad, long term maybe this Jan will be key to us spending big this summer to build a competitive squad.

Exactly Kneerash.

Had we had a bit more luck with decisions this month we would have had a few better results but that would have papered over the cracks in the squad.

As it is, they have been exposed, and everyone at the club should be aware of the depth we need to add next season otherwise it will be very difficult to cope with European football.

"No I'm not making excuses"

After reciting a list of excuses as long as your arm - including contradicting yourself. You say Milner, Lallana and Firmino have run themselves into the ground and then say that Chelsea have had a settled side all season!!

Doesn't it follow then that that 'settled' Chelsea side should all have been run into the ground?

It was a decent game, both teams did ok without setting the world alight and a point apiece was a fair result!

in his defence, wasnt it Chelsea 6th game in January? compared to Liverpools 9th, also with Chelsea having a more favourable christmas period, the bigger and more expensive squad yet less games.

We were decent imo. Chelsea's goal came at a time when we were on top and our performance in the opening 25 minutes of the 2nd half was good.
As others have said though, some of our players still looked out of form, we were spent by the end and we didn't play with the same kind of confidence and fluidity are capable of.

There's three players who aren't performing and should be dopped IMO. They are Lallana, Firmino, and Can.

But have Chelsea got a bigger squad in real terms?

As the OP has already alluded, AC sticks to the same team pretty much as standard, with fringe squad players getting very few worthwhile minutes and hasn't Klopp rotated his squad frequently?

A bit of a double edged sword I know but if you don't want the extra games, then throw the cup competitions early doors, ensure you finish outside the top six to avoid any European competition and hey presto - no fixture pile up!

But we as fans know that we don't want that and prefer our teams competing as best we can, which leaves little room for complaint about to many games!
