Does not do it justice- read the life section.

Basically, a bloke claims to have found a tablet if God that only he can read in his back garden, convinces people to join him, makes up the teachings, which conveniently allow for donations...and for him to be able to have multiple wives, including yours. Eventually is murdered. Could not make it up.

..and it's still going strong.

There is a very good documentary by Louis Theroux on Scientology that's well worth a watch.
