Derby County 3 - 3 Bristol City

I was trying to work out how many match threads I have done since Christmas.....and it came to .......loads ...

....but listen lads and lassies, I love it and you exiles and non-attenders make my match day

Tomorrow should see Derby revert to their strongest team - ever and play a Bristol side famous for letting Stephen Pearson play for them.....and others....name them...

Controversy surrounds the FA replay against Leicester but its over and the acrimonious debates here are now over and we can move forward.......

I'll try and add more - but only if you want.....I've set the ball rolling........over to you....

Igor Steve McClaren is a one trick pony and he's been sussed out by every team in the division. He's not even sorted us out on set pieces yet

Honeymoon period is over

...is McClaren a one-trick pony, or is Derby County?

Both Pearson and Clement have tried to get us to play a different way and neither were successful; "The Derby Way" has come back to get steer us away from the bottom half of the division but it won't get us promoted, or at least if we did fluke it we'd get absolutely mullered the following season.

We need height, pace and power right down the spine of the team and we don't have it at the moment. We're probably just about at our level now, winning more than we lose but really just treading water. The significant signings over recent years haven't improved us, and nor do they look like we'll see anything back from that investment.

Root and branch needed, but can't see it!

666 steve Mac said in January that he's happy with this squad well I'm not. Don't it make you laugh when he's telling everyone he wants Martin back.... surely that wouldn't give a lot of confidence to strikers what he's got right now. Also totally agree with you about the spine of the team

The old and tiresome uttering but it needs saying - again - " we have tried to get promoted but still have not managed, why?"

Will say 666 is right with his musing that it's Derby County who are a one trick pony. We implode/fail every year.

By your own comment though you can see how it is for McClaren: he said he wanted Martin back and is condemned for upsetting/undermining the other strikers, but when he says he's happy with the squad he's accused of being blind to its weaknesses. Can't have it both ways!

Personally I think we're better at Plan A with Chris Martin, and he brings out the best in the current players around his position. The problem is that he doesn't offer us a Plan B, and apparently neither do the current players. Plan A has been tried and has repeatedly failed. If Chris Martin and the current supporting cast can't play any way other than Plan A, we need to start over. I'd like him as one option, but not as the only option.

I think we were on "Plan C" for the second-half on Saturday?

Said it the other day, that all managers are one trick ponies (except maybe Paul Clement ).
Pearson & even Guardiola are typical examples of that.
I'll be willing to eat my words if someone can give me an example of a manager who has achieved any success by changing his style of play

Erm....Billy Davies? His Preston side and his promotion Derby side were different, as was the Forest team that got into the play-offs.

Not sure he qualifies, but take your point

When Mac took over and added a right back to replace Brayford we were a very good side and should have got promoted.

Three years later and after spending (fill in how many millions) we are quite a lot worse off. People used to blame Martin when we were poor, but he's playing by the river now.

If I was Chairman of Derby County I wouldn't change the manager. But I'm not and the current Chairman is far more ruthless than me. If we keep playing badly I wouldn't be surprised to be surprised one day. Usually my son texts me with surprising Derby news.

I agree with 666 on his 2 above posts, well done 666, have you thought of applying for a football job when one comes up. Maybe make a start at Forest.
