Unless you've been living under a rock these past 16 years, everyone will know the historical significance of this fixture in the context of the Scottish Cup. It evokes memories of one of the darkest days at Celtic that I can remember (and that was just 2 seasons ago ).
A game up in the Highlands would also be the resting place for Celtics league title campaign in 2011 so it is fair to say we have some history with Inverness, as, inevitably, they too have spoilt Brendan's perfect domestic season with a sucker punch last year.
So I approached this fixture with trepidation- a one off game where anything could happen and happen it did. All in front of the Inverness goal.
From the very start Celtic were in control, majority possession without too much bite up front initially. Inverness chose to try and press Celtic high up the pitch applying pressure to Sviatchenko and Boyata. What I found interesting though was the way in which Caleys forward players seemed to just split apart entirely, the forwards chasing the ball and pushing on to Celtics backline and yet the defenders stayed camped deep in their own half.
This created a chasm in midfield allowing Brown and co. to drift into acres of space. Beating the initial press by the attackers merely involved slotting a ball into the midfield area that was entirely vacated and undermined the whole idea of any sort of attacking build up by Inverness. This would be reflected in the scarce opportunities they would go on to create.
Celtic lacked a bit of cutting edge in that first half hour, Liam Henderson in particular I felt wanted far too long on the ball and passed up Celtics best chances in that opening period.
The breakthrough was only going to come for one team however and it arrived when Biton picked out the attacking run of Lustig with a lofted ball over the backline. Lustig took one touch to control the ball and elegantly swept the ball home for the opener. It was superb play and exemplifies the confidence that our right back is playing with at the moment, it was the sort of quality goal you might expect from a Dembele type player but he too would have his say as he blitzed the Caley rearguard in a magical 15 minute spell around Half Time.
The first goal was started by the Frenchman as he picked out the industrious Forrest with a beautifully weighted pass on the right hand side. Forrest jinked inside, losing his marker and cut the ball back for Dembele to firmly place a low shot from 12 yards to the keepers left. The shot had a decent amount of power, too much for Fon Williams though as he allowed the ball to squirm under his grasp and trickle over the line.
Worth mentioning from this first half was a shocking scissors tackle from Iain Vigurs that crumpled Scott Sinclair- it was a lunge with both feet that should have seen red in my eyes.
From 2-0 at Half Time Celtic moved into cruise control. ICTs press began to tire and gaps opened up Celtics front men which they would ruthlessly exploit. Moussa was in the mood to torment and he tortured Inverness until his eventual substitution.
His second goal was opportunism, he was in the right place at the right time to fire the ball home as Scott Sinclair was denied by a last ditch tackle. His third, started by the man himself using his physical strength to win the ball back and his wonderful technique to unleash a curling pass to release the ball to Forrest on the right hand side. The ball was floated into the box and there was the man himself on hand to power the header home for his deserved hat trick.
Whilst the goals highlight some of Moussas best attributes I thought in that period after half time he was unplayable. The likes of Warren and McKay are there to rough up technical players as with the sort of money in Scottish football it is rare to get players who have both physicality, technique and pace in their locker. Moussa has it all and he just punished them like footballs answer to Judge Dredd. Every time he ran forward there looked to be a goal in the making. At 20 years old that is just frightening, especially at this level
Tierney scored a carbon copy of Dembele's third goal and Brown thundered the ball home right at the end to put an exclamation point on the result (The net could have come off its hinges with the sheer power).
I'd like to mention Brown and Forrest as they both played an instrumental part in the creation of the goals and the domination of the ball respectively. I just don't have the words to say much more.
I literally don't as the character limit is running low

You know i really liked moussas second. Wasnt the greatest effort but if you follow him after he shoots he just outright flattens the centre half with his momentum. Just squashes him. He is as physical as any player ive seen while still being an excellent ball player.
I see why the fees could be ridiculous thh
Please keep until group stages

Great summery of the game as usual UTC
I thought Forrest,Tierney,Dembele and Brown were superb.Absolutely ruthless.Never gave ICT a second..
Really hope we can keep Brendan and this squad together for the next 3 or 4 years or more! it really is a pleasure watching this Celtic team.
With Armstrong,Rogic,Griffiths to come back in to the team and to see what Eboue has to offer as well it really is an exciting time to be a Celtic fan.
Hail Hail
