FT: STOKE 1-0 LIVERPOOL

Date: Saturday 10 September 2011
Kick Off: 15:00
Venue: Britannia Stadium, Stoke
Competition: Barclays Premier League
Referee: Mark Clattenburg (Tyne and Wear)
Broadcast: n/a

Liverpool narrowly lost to Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday afternoon in a match that they really should have won.

The Reds dominated the start of the match but couldn't find the goal to give them the lead, and paid for this on 20 minutes when Stoke won a penalty after Jamie Carragher had his arm around Jon Walters in the box. Walters himself stepped up and smashed the ball down the middle.

Liverpool continued to press forward looking for a goal, with Luis Suarez excellent once again. The second half was more of the same, with Liverpool in full control of the play. But when the Reds had five consecutive efforts at goal in the second half and still failed to score, this was possibly a sign that it was not going to be their day. Jordan Henderson had a number of efforts, as did Charlie Adam, but goalkeeper Asmir Begovic and the Stoke defence held out excellently to come away unscathed.

Liverpool had a couple of big penalty decisions go against them towards the end of the game, as big handball appeals were waved away by referee Mark Clattenburg.

The arrival of Andy Carroll and Craig Bellamy had made Liverpool look more dangerous, but they could not find the goal that they needed and Stoke hung on for the victory.

Ref didn't help, but we were far from good.

All I can say is that the team is developing a nice pattern, we deserved to lose, but I give Stoke alot of credit for being hard to beat on their own patch.

Ah well it was just one of those days, bad penaly call against us, we could of had one of our own and just to make it even more frustrating we dominated play. We really did deserve something but this sometimes happens in football, the important thing is how you respond and Liverpool must do that starting next week at Spurs

Mr Chelsea can't comment but he has a message:

Dissapointing result , now the boys need to take this on the chin, then bounce back in our next Match

I officially hate Stoke, they always draw against us and other times sneak a victory

It's a disappointment but we'll put this behind us and move on.

It's not as if we didn't create anything. On another day we wouyld have scored at least 2.

I remain optimistic for the season as a whole.

Stoke are a tough proposition at home.
