Great result today and very good performance to go with it
Just a quick one about Vertonghen. So good to have him back, straight back with a very good performance with no signs of rust.
He's really underrated by some fans, Toby normally gets the plaudits but we've seen while Verts has been out Toby doesn't look as good. He even helped Davies have a good game
Next we need Rose back and I think we'll go on a good run of results

Don't buy this Davies exposed in a 4231.
1, he's supposed to be a defensive minded LB
2, we have two DMs in Waynama & Dembele to get across and help
3, we played the formation all last season we minimal problems
The fact is he's just not very good
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If his job was simply to defend that would be fine, and to a certain extent he can do so when Son plays on the left and he can just offer regular fullback support. Give and go.
The problem comes when we do not have any pace and penetration on the left and Davies is expected to be Rose and play further up and wide, while still doing his defensive job.
Exposed in the team, exposes his deficiencies
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He doesn't need to play like Rose at all especially with Son a head of him.
Everyone tells me he's a defensive minded LB yet gets beat all the time.
Like I said last season we played the formation it was fine,it's just now the 343 ( or whatever way you call it ) is just fashionable so everyone thinks we should play it
He's just not very good

the left side had been a problem when Rose is out, im surprised that Poch hasnt gone for a back 3 and try to utilise one of our wingers as a wing-back as done at Mun U and chelsea surely he needs to try to solve that, Davies as a full back is too exposed
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We did that in the second half against Gent and after a good start to the half, it didn't exactly work out thereafter. That was with Sissoko, then N'Koudou, on the left, though, but not sure who else (Son?) could do it well enough to be better than simply having Davies there.

So good to have Verts back.... we look so much better with him and Toby in the team.... even with Vorm & Davies in defense. It sounds like like Poch gave them a B0llocking after Gent/ Pool & it showed yesterday. Optimistic for the rest of the season esp with no away games left vs the top 6 !!!! COYS

That is the point though - he does not always have Son ahead of him. He did not v Liverpool or Gent.

Dont get me wrong Hengs, I have said for ages Davies is not suited to us as a fullback, and needs pace ahead of him for him to perform well. Preaching to the converted. Always high on my list of players to replace.
I do not think he is a bad player though.

Erm he did have son in front v Liverpool but when you have two DMs in like Waynama & Dembele in reality you don't need the front left to track back.
He just not very good... no pace & no positional sense that's what leaves him exposed.
Should be 1 of the first players replaced

Son never played on the left v Liverpool. Nominally yes, but was nowhere near disciplned enough to be true width.
In that situation, Davies needs to act like a winger. Which he isnt.
That Wanyama and Dembele did not help him defensively is down to them really. Cant pin that on Davies.

Davies isn't bad. It must be difficult playing an odd game here and there as opposed to being a regular which he's never going to be at spurs.
I thought he did well when called upon last season.
Agreed first port of call must be another LWB

Just don't rate him at all tbh and tbf I don't rate Trippier but he seems to step in and put a good performance in more than Davies can in the few games he gets

Unless he gets games as a centreback soon, I see no future for him here.
I have a feeling Trippier will still be here until we know if KWP can step up
