How the mighty have fallen and its a familiar route, except we have never risen....
Aston Villa, biggish club, biggish fan base, big stadium, big ideas above their station......sound familiar???
Derby come into this on the back of an extremely disappointing run which has confirmed that the pipe dream of play-offs and promotion was just that .....a pipe dream. Confirmed to all except one.
Next season is the mantra now as the Faithful offer up their version of what/which/how we should play but the bottom line is that I think some players have failed us....
JR7 and CB4 could return after their nigglous time out but I don't think they are the answer. Oh, to have Paul Goddard and Dean Saunders who scored against Villa in our last victory (1-2) against them in 1988
Villa seem to be in free fall and have lost their last five league games and have not won since Boxing Day which provides the perfect foil for a win tomorrow....
Team news:-
Aston Villa 1 - 0 Derby County 😥

Just to put things into context: Norwich v Ipswich first half, no shots on target for either side

It's a 'cagey' local derby though Ang, we look as nervous as hell every time we play, including yesterday.
There was only any urgency to get the ball forward in the last 5/10 mins. Too little too late.

I think having lots of shots on goal is so old hat. We play the modern way like we did against Burton, not too many shots, it makes the games different.

I know this 'modern' game is one of possession, patience, building from the back, sideways, backwards etc... apparently you eventually wear your opponent down.
I for one am becoming increasingly disillusioned with it.
Boring, uninteresting, drab.
Maybe it's the new Derby way? If it is, it's not for me.

Watching Spurs trounce Stoke.
The key seems to be to, to rapidly & ruthlessly turn defence into attack.
We seem to be masters of neither at the moment
