Died last night. He played against us with Real Madrid in the 1957 European semi final, he won the ballon d'or, the first French player to do so.

Incidentally I was at that game but don't remember him, or hardly anything in fact.

Just looked it up because I've never heard the story - it's a shame there's so much modern day animosity because that's a wonderful story of mutual respect.
Can't believe Di Stefano agreed to play for Utd for the season and it didn't happen!

I saw the obituary and just about recalled the name. He played in one game I only vaguely remember- England v The Rest of the World (FIFA) in 1963 and, by all accounts, was an outstanding player.
