I wouldn't get too hung up on missing out on O. Dembele, he plays in a League where managers leave if a 3rd/4th tier English club come calling. All our failed summer signings would look like Messi if they played in Scotland.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Talking about the Dembele that plays for Dortmund
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry mate, I have read people getting narked that we didn't sign the Celtic one and assumed he was the subject matter.
Too many Dembeles. Haha
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wanyama came from Celtic.
Say what you like about Scottish football but Celtic signed Forster, Van Dijk and Wanyama for buttons and sold them on for healthy profit. All three are holding their own in the PL.
If they can find these guys why can't Spurs?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh come on, fair play to those 3 but how many have come south and failed? Just like Dembele, Kenny Miller and Lee Griffiths score/have scored copious numbers of goals in Scotland but things didn't happen for them in England.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I didn't say all players coming from Scottish football were a success, just like all the Europeans, South Americans, Africans etc aren't a success.
My point was Celtic managed to scout these three for little or nothing, why hadn't our scouts been fishing in that pool too. I appreciate it's impossible to cover every angle but recent history has shown we could and should be doing better in the transfer market.

Don't group Forster with van Dijk and Wanyama, he's terrible

I disagree, he's having a poor season but his performances for Celtic and last season for Southampton were as good as most in the PL.

He massively benefits from playing behind a good defence, he lets in a lot of goals that he should save

Well there you go, everyone's got an opinion. We'll agree to disagree.

Our scouting is embarrassing nowadays to be honest. Yes I know I bang on about it a considerable amount but I do so because it's so frustrating.
We know full well we can't pay the top dollar in fees and wages for the top players or in some cases even the tier of player below that; which means we should be all over the young talent - an area Poch is quite keen on (no dirty jokes).
When I see the likes of Embolo and Dembele moving to what I'd class as 'stepping stone' clubs for affordable fees I feel the urge to slap someone. Worst-case scenario is that we buy these players but don't progress at the same rate they do, they leave for big bucks and we try and hunt for replacements. Best scenario is that we grow with them and keep them until we find the new and improved version.
There are still plenty of highly-rated youngsters at clubs we can feasibly get them from, yet I doubt if and when they move we won't have even got involved in any way whatsoever.

Bit late to reply got shafted with work.
I see the greg stobart stuff mate he is actually not too bad he has a relative understanding of how it works not great though. He has followed hearsay on webb without understanding webbs role. Whats your name on twitter or you not wanna say?
Basically Webb who has been gone a week or so now took over the role from rob mackenzie. He was the second in command to the "technical side" videos/ football manager (i wish i was joking)/black box.
It was mitchell that rejected the signings. not webb mitchell called the shots somehow webb has received the blame amongst tottenham fans bit unfair.
Webb is a new form of scout though a tecnical one not one that goes to games again not joking there they do not watch live games in person! No surprise that hitchen ditched him as hitchen is a primairly blood and guts scout.

Not even joking if we actually did base our signings off Football Manager we would have a higher transfer success rate
