Seen in your lifetime?
A really tough question and perhaps one you’d prefer to divide into
Best English Goalkeeper?
Best English Defender?
Best English Midfielder?
And Best English Striker/Forward?
Goalkeeper – For me it’s David Seaman. I was too young to see Shilton in his prime and of all his successors, Seaman for me has been the stand out.
Defender – Probably the most open to debate?! For me it’s John Terry. Even in 2003 I was saying to my dad how outraged I was that he wasn’t getting in to the England squad. I hope he does get to lift one more Premier League. I suspect if we do win it, he’ll lift it with Cahill.
Midfielder – Bryan Robson. Yes I Know I’ve seen Gazza, Scholes, Gerrard, Lampard etc. I’ve yet to see another English Midfielder who was almost the perfect mix of talent and grit who did a lot of his achievements either hung over or carrying an injury. 99 United goals in a considerably lesser team. He would still walk into today’s England team and he’d be the only candidate imo to be captain.
Forward. In my lifetime, it’s still Shearer. For me he was a the Diego Costa of his day minus the controversy. Definitely a player you disliked if he didn't play for you. For me along with the fact that I loved him for England, I see that as a compliment and one I believe Costa kinda receives today.
Who's the best English player you've ......

Not a tough question for me, so I'm not splitting it into positions. Nobody comes close to Paul Gascoigne. Bad decisions and ruined potential but as far as plain talent is concerned he wins hands down.
At his worst he was always enthusiastic, a live wire or a time bomb - at his brilliant best he was so totally unpredictable and exciting to watch.
Beckham comes close, and can't deny Gerrard or Lineker but Gazza takes it for me.

You were doing so well til you mentioned Beckham. I'd suggest Charlton , Scholes ,Lampard, Gerrard, we're all ahead of Beckham but none got close to Gazza for pure natural talent, effectiveness in a major tournament and confidence on the pitch. Shame about his demons in later years. I've always believed the booze numbed the pain of retirement

Geoff Hurst > Jimmy Greaves
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hurst wasn't fit to lace Greaves drinks. Seriously Greaves was head and shoulders above any forward at that time. Had he not got injured Hurst would be a forgotten player as his club career wasn't anything special compared to Greaves who scored almost double for both club and country.

As it is, Hurst won us a World Cup and will be remembered long after the name Jimmy Greaves has been forgotten.

Well much better than anyone could dream. Anyone will tell you as will the record books Greaves was deadly. Even the Italians talk of him despite only playing 14 games for AC and scoring 9

The problem with the record books is that people only care about who holds the record, and Ronaldo is 3 league goals away from breaking Greveas' record.

Beckham is actually a good shout as a winger.

Gazza better than Charlton? Not even close. Record scorer for England and United, from midfield mostly, didn't take penalties, best shot in the game. An all time great for England, never booked, won every honour possible, World Cup,, European Cup, Titles etc.
Genuinely two footed, great body swerve, fabulous long range passer, never injured. All on poor pitches,, leather balls etc.

GK - Peter Shilton, hasn't felt like we've had a safe pair of hands since, although Seaman wasn't too far behind.
DF- Terry, although Ledley King had the potential.
MF- Gazza - no English player since has made me get out of my seat because you felt he was gonna do something magic
FW- Le God - every year id buy the goals galore VHS and it would be a Matt Le Tissier highlight reel 😂
