I think it's safe to say that Friday was the day that Hibs won the Championship after a narrow and fairly poor 90 minutes at Tannadice that had more yellow and red cards than chances on goal.

It was to be frank a fairly poor game that lacked in any significant quality. United were badly damaged by the stupidity and lack of ability of Lewis Toshney who quite frankly is a dreadful footballer and a complete liability. His first yellow card was a stupid and unnecessary challenge on the half way line against an opponent who was going backwards. His second yellow card was inevitable and you saw coming a mile away. To go to ground again when he was always going to be unlikely to win the ball was just ridiculous and it left us with 10 men for a long, long time against the best team in the league.

Having said that, Hibs weren't particularly great. Cummings took his goal well and outwith a Boyle blast over the bar and a fine save from Bell in the second half, they didn't really threaten. Sadly we didn't threaten throughout the game.

Hibs of course lost Cummings to a second yellow card for a blatant handball as he punched the ball into the net, but even then we resorted to hoofball tactics with Durnan pushed forward and we didn't look like scoring.

Congratulations to Hibs on winning the Championship. Sadly this leaves us in a very challenging position as we slide down to 4th in the league, albeit with games in hand.

For many Arabs though, the pre and post game discussion was not around the match itself but was around the protest that took place.

The protest was a shambles and only a handful of fans took part in it. They were quickly booed and then the rest of the fans started to sing over the top of them. I certainly sang pro-United songs during the protest.

I was in the Victoria Bar pre-match and had a discussion with one of the guys who is part of this fans group that organised it and was handing out leaflets and selling scarves. I told him exactly what I thought of it, that it was the wrong time, that they've organised the thing poorly and that they have not explained what they're about and what they are actually hoping to achieve. I told him that choosing the Hibs game was the worst time to do it and it was a PR disaster for them. To the guys credit, he said he didn't disagree and had said as much at the groups meeting earlier in the week. He was actually a good guy and good to chat to.

Over the weekend I decided to look into this group and see what they are about. I found their facebook page. It's a closed group. I think that sums them up to be honest.

I then had a nosey around twitter and saw the more vocal members of their group slaughtering the other United fans for not joining in. If you're on twitter I suspect you'll know who I'm talking about. Again, this isn't exactly winning folk over to their cause. Shambolic.

I suspect this isn't the last we'll hear of them though. By all accounts they've been going for months and have a committee and everything. I'm not entirely sure why they've been so quiet for so long.

I suspect we're in for another couple of tough months.

If we're being political, it sounds like the idiots on both sides of the independence argument.

I'm on twitter and I don't know who you're talking about...!

Anyway, I couldn't go to the match on Friday because I was working on a school trip. My old man sent me a text synopsis, between that and your match report it doesn't sound like I missed anything! Most worrying for me is that we actually don't have games in hand over Morton, so we need to rely on them dropping points to other teams or, you know, actually beating them ourselves through there on the last day of the season (not like there's any history there or anything...)

Like you said that's the league lost, it's vital that they focus on getting back into the habit of winning now.

I don't really follow lower league football, but etc.

Sounds like the standard "superfan" types who just want others to know just how super they are. 90% of them will be from United Mad.

As for the game, awful in every aspect. Positives... err... perhaps the most competent refereeing display I've seen in a while. Big decisions made correctly, overall no poobaggery.
But with the way Hibs are going at the moment, I wouldn't say they're a certainty to win the league. United don't have a hope, but if Morton or Falkirk can string a few games together it could get interesting.
