Seen a lot on social media in the past few weeks that Pogba cannot be uttered in the same breath as these living legends, as though they have god-like status and that it's absurd that the world's most expensive player could potentially surpass them
So let's see what these guys achieved at the age of 23 which is so far beyond what Pogba is capable of
Lampard
Intertoto Cup
4 England caps
39 career goals
Gerrard
FA Cup
League Cup
UEFA Cup
UEFA Super Cup
PFA Young Player of the Year
PFA Fans Player of the Year
PFA PL Team of the Year
21 England caps
25 career goals
Pogba
4 league titles
2 Coppa Italias
2 Supercoppa Italianas
League Cup
U20 World Cup Winner + Golden Ball
Golden Boy Winner
Serie A Team of the Year (x3)
FIFA World Cup Best Young Player
Bravo Award
UEFA Team of the Year
FIFA FIFPRO World XI
44 France Caps
49 career goals
Pogba has also reached the final of the Champions League and the Euros, importantly as a key player in both teams
So apart from being English and going to the pub rather than dabbing, what made Lampard and Gerrard so special that Pogba has no chance of eclipsing?
Gonna dismiss any self-entitled comments that call Serie A a weak league when the PL is clearly no better, Pogba was also part of the reason Juventus dominated don't forget

havent seen much of him this season but was massively underwhelmed by the worlds most expensive player last night....spent a lot of time chasing the ball around the middle of the park without actually getting hold of it.
I think he probably does suffer from being in a Jose team, who places way too much emphasis on the defensive side of the game and not enough on giving players freedom to express themselves.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course he has massively underwhelmed as the world's most expensive player.
If you judged him as a 23/4 year old CM playing his first full season in the PL instead, you'd say he's had a good season.

I'm not sure what metrics you're using rosso.
Is he world class or not? Or should I just forget about that and take the mean average expectation of every 23 year old midfielder who signs from abroad?
If you're comparing him to someone like Imbula then sure he's having a good season.

I wouldn't say he's performing as a world class midfielder, or that he has done in other than in a handful of games all season.
I'm not judging him against his price tag, because I think that's utter folly for any player nowadays.
If I was dividing every player's on pitch performances by their transfer fee to establish their true value, then I'd be judging present day Ibra to be amongst the greatest players ever.
I've said it over and over. I don't care what we pay for players. What matters is if they turn up and play. That's what impacts results. Is Pogba worth three Herreras or five Carricks or an infinite number of Ibras? No, obviously not.
Has he influenced our results and the quality of our performances enough to be counted amongst our most important players this season? Yes. He's made an immediate and positive impact.

And, to pre-empt your follow up, I was not one of those cretins who banged on about Andy Carroll or Benteke's transfer fees.
I was just one of those cretins who banged on about how shiiiite they were

"I feel the world is losing balance. Envy coming to certain levels. I am scared for the next generation.
"[It's] not Paul's fault he gets 10 times money and some ex-players need money. I and the club are very happy with Paul."
"The specialists will say a lot about him and it comes from envy. They will never ever earn 10 percent of what he does."

there you have it. Its not about football with Pogba. its just about money. Even the club themselves recognize that and are happy with it as long as he brings in the cash.

With all due respect, you have entirely misinterpreted Mourinho's comments.

Mourinhos comments didn't once mention his football did they? It was all money money money. He said that's his motivation. Utd are happy with that. Seemed pretty clear

What he was suggesting is that people are making disparaging comments about Pogba and his performances because they are jealous of his income.
He's not talking about Pogba's motivations at all.

Well he did spend a fair amount of time in the UK and speaks English. When Kante arrived at Leicester he was entirely new here, didn't speak the language, and to use a cliché belt his feet do the talking.
No,, I don't think it's far more common for world record fee signings to take a season to perform.
All fees can be spread over a number of years, but he is still a world record fee.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes but you're missing a key point. And it's because you're so obsessed with the fee written down. It does look impressive/outlandish "£89m" but when you look at how many fans we have, therefore how much more we stand to gain off a "world record few player" then of course we're going to pay more if we need.
Our club ecord fee is likely to be the highest. And when you line up our club record fee, it isn't much more than others.
And we have the TV money thrown in. So again, we're bound to be the highest spenders. Or one of.
