Let's hope it's not too serious.

Wood injury

Even if it's just precautionary, I can't see Monk risking him in the Reading game.

Always the worry when he plays teams of much lesser ability as the scope for getting lumps kicked of you as the opposition's best player is always there. Was always going to be a factor after our lack of dealings in January and with his pivotal role in our formation and season.sounds like as luck would have it he has been sent home as a precaution but it still could have an impact.

I'm sure this is a courtesy from Hudson (NZ coach and spawn of Chelsea invertebrate from the 70's) who is returning Chris early, as NZ had already romped to a 2-0 lead in the away leg against Fiji. He will be needing Wood for the probable play-off games against the 5th place South American later this year. Wood cruised through the game. There was a heavy challenge on him late on, but it was a clean tackle and he bounced straight back up afterwards..

Hopefully he's ok, fingers crossed.
What i learnt today is that if a player gets injured during an international match , Fifa pays the wage until they are fit again.

Batty, that's interesting, negates a lot of arguments you hear about clubs paying the wages then lose a player and it costs them.

It does Jonty but in terms of Wood, Him being out could cost us more than just wages.

Simply put it does cost them. Whether that be promotion / relegation or even a place difference in the PL, it costs far more than just the short term problem of being out injured.

Think it's pretty shocking that Oceania is the only region which doesn't get a guaranteed place in the World Cup and has to play fifth in South America for the place.
And I ddon't my buy the whole well they ain't ever going to win it and they are small so shouldn't be given a place for their winner.
No African team is ever going to win it and they get about four guaranteed teams and Europe has plenty of teams in it to make up the numbers
