Mixed Emotions Today

Very frustrating result again, can't believe how many times we've dominated (I mean completely dominated) at home yet fail to win or even score.

I said in another article this week that I was in a box for the game today. Awesome experience, great way to enjoy the game. And I actually quite enjoyed it despite the fact we were lacking in the final third.

And getting to meet the world's most expensive player, Paul Pogba, in his box, two down from ours, definitely made up for the poor result!

Didn't look in danger of conceding at all except Dave's comedy moment, fumbling the ball against the bar. We just didn't have that cutting edge or bit of luck in front of goal.

WBA and Mike Dean were absolutely shocking. WBA had no intention of trying to win that game, none whatsoever. They time wasted, really badly, was so obvious, from the very first minute and Dean did nothing to discourage it. While he didn't affect the result he severely affected the quality of the game by allowing them to cheat so blatantly. I'd have thought former players like Foster would have a bit more respect than to do what they did today.

Top 4 is gone I'd say. Focus on Europa. At least Everton might come and attack a bit on Tuesday.

After the game, the subs plus Herrera, Zlatan and Pogba all had a training session on the pitch. Reckon Pogba might be available Tuesday.

That was odd, how Arsenal managed to get him so cheap in relation to Di Maria with pretty much no completion either. Maybe he really does love London.

I don't think he had as long on his contract and Barca were actively looking to sell - but it was strange they didn't have more competition.

He's a better player now, though. I think he'd be the perfect replacement for Robben at Bayern. Imagine those two in the same team with Lewa when Robben's not injured.

Well you could say all Klopp has to do is improve his defence a little and they will be fine.
Even as it is they are ahead of us and may well finish ahead of us. Plus much more entertaining to watch in the meantime.
I want us to be as good to watch as Liverpool, whilst finishing above them. Like we all do.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It'll be easier to fix our attack than it will be to fix liverpools defence
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nonsense, scoring goals is the hardest thing in football

Building a good defence is harder.

Does that mean LVG is a better manager than Jose?

He didn't build a good defence. He just created a midfield that would hold onto the ball and relieve the pressure on the defence but it sacrificed any creative intent.

Jose has made the defence solid and at the same time made us the highest chance creators in the league

Not structly true, the defence did quite well. Though having De Gea play amazing helped our goals against tallly. That said, I think we'll concede less this season and that's without De Gea playing out of his skin.

If we brought in a left back who could do what Valencia does on the right (and cross), Griezmann could operate on the inside left much as Mata does on the inside right. But with pace and an incredible shot from outside the box.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We have two attack-minded left backs at the club who consistently deliver wicked crosses.

Unfortunately, we only have two players in the first team squad (in Zlatan and Fellaini) who seem able to make anything of crossed balls with any kind of regularity.

Ah ok. I think failure to qualify for the CL could be a stumbing block for us with him. I'd be worried of Chelsea beating us to his signing if that happened and they sold Hazard.

We've been linked with Mendy today. Not sure how many players we'll sign this summer, but I wouldn't be disappointed with five: a forward, two cm's, a cb and a lb.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not convinced we need a centreback, at all. We have five quality, experienced central defenders and two very talented young players who have more than earned games for the senior team as far as I'm concerned. Even with Smalling and Jones's injuries we have plenty of cover, and if either was to go, they wouldn't need replacing.

We also have seven - count them, facking seven - players who can play at left back. Surely one of them has the ability and drive to step up and make the role their own.
