Just finished watching the Man Utd Everton game, and I have to say, Lukaku was awful. He's strong, and fast, but he makes terrible decisions - and he's incredibly lazy. There were at least 2 occasions when Everton were under the cosh, and their defensive players were angrily shouting at Lukaku to help them more. Incredible. He was just walking around, while the rest of the team were giving everything. I really hope we don't try to sign him in the Summer - he would be a poor imitation of a top class striker.

To be fair we were a crap team last season. And a broken watch is right twice a day.
The guy is ok when fed chances and can certainly put the ball in the net, but he's just not a very good footballer.
Same as costa for me, who has many shortcomings, same with kane also, who turns like a carthorse for example and hold up play usually poor. These guys though will always find the net. Doesn't mean you have to rate them.
Aguero is the best striker in the league by some distance as an all around player.

Lukaku is probably not very good if you set your standards too high, the kind of high that very few strikers in the world meet - consistently scoring to a near 1 in 1 level, being able to do it against big teams and on the big stage, having an impact when he's not scoring etc. He's no Suarez that's for sure.
What you will get from him now are a good amount of goals consistently for this league, and that excludes the potential to go a step further.
By all accounts he is a good striker, as there are an awful lot who can't even do the latter.

I dunno, we've had strikers who can bang them in, but to play at a top club you need more than that, first of all you need to score important goals, lukaku in last years semi final sums him up for me, missed about 5 one on ones or good break opportunities.
There's no doubt in my mind that shane long would score 20 plus at a team like chelsea.
What we need is a striker who scores but also brings others into play, drogba being the epitome of that.
But a benzema or dare I say even giroud, would probably score 20 plus for us, and hazard would be on 30 a year imo.
As it stands hazard takes defenders away from costa, not the other way around.

On another point………….(slightly off topic)
Is anyone mentally spending a transfer fee for Costa this Summer or are you of the opinion he’s definitely staying?

I hope he's not staying flash, think he's run his course tbh.
Not mentally spending the fee, we will get aload if we win the league etc anyway

TBF to most Everton fans I know they have always agreed with this point. On his day he is unplayable and he has a spell of this for 5-8 or so games and then goes back to being ineffective.

i've always had a doubt about his affecting the big games. and the assumption would score even more in a better team is not something i've ever subscribed to.
But in light of me believing Costa does want to leave and has never really warmed to being at Chelsea, i am actually (need to bathe in detol) warming to the idea of his return.

Wow Lukaku getting slaughtered after one poor game. Let's not forget that Lukaku is the top scorer in the PL this season with a very good 21 goals and 6 assists already and he is the most accurate striker as well with 64% of shots on target:

But it's not one poor game is it?
He was also anonymous against Liverpool.
That's 2 consecutive poor games. Be interesting to see if he can score against a resurgent Leicester.

Did Lukaku have a poor game against Liverpool? Not sure. Even the very best strikers have anonymous games as they largely rely on service, not entirely sure that's the same as poor though.

I'm not suggesting he is bad. He clearly scores lots of goals, which is his main role. But first of all I want someone with more technical ability playing for Chelsea. He seems like he is the best goalscorer but worst footballer at Everton. Plus, I was appalled at the perception that he just didn't really try. I read somewhere recently that he runs less than any other player in the league - although I don't know if this is totally true. But judging by the angry reaction of some of his teammates yesterday I would not be surprised. It's possible that Koeman has told him to focus his efforts on the last third of the pitch, and not to waste himself on coming back to defend - but he could still do a whole lot more in my opinion.
Clearly he adds strength and power to a lineup, but he has nowhere near the ability of Costa, Kane, Aguero etc. And at a minimum I want someone who will work for the team - and that doesn't seem to be Lukaku.
