Told Jesse Lingard has agreed to sign new Manchester United contract. 4-year deal. Wages will treble to about Β£100,000 a week

Jesus, lots of money for a squad player and he hasn't warranted it either. But he's young and hopefully will improve, been pretty underwhelmed with him this season at times.
Lingard new contract

The truth is that he doesn't offer enough in his all round game to warrant a new contract for that length or money.
Here's my take on Lingard:
PROS:
- bundle of energy and will put a shift in, in terms of pressing and distance covered
- he posses a good shot on him (Fa cup final etc)
- I assume that he follows tactical orders well which is a hot topic with people like Luke shaw
CONS:
- lack of quality in passing. Don't be fooled by stats, more often then not Lingard's passing hasn't been up to scratch, especially when you're looking for a killer ball
- off the ball movement - I urge you to watch him during a game, it's much better when you're at old Trafford to do this, Jesse will stand still in the tightest of gaps and point at his feet asking for an impossible pass, compare that to someone of Mata's quality, who would maybe do the same for a few seconds but is constantly moving in the channels, offering multiple options. (A key example of this was the Everton game. Both Rashford and Lingard weren't providing the options and instead made it so easy for Everton to mark them, causes zlatan to drop deeper and deeper and then results in having no attaching players in the box when we eventually get near).
Passing is something he can improve on, off the ball movement however? Not too sure, think intelligence plays a key part in movement and some players just have the knack for it (Mata, Silva etc)
Happy for him to stay as a squad player though

That's crazy, average squad players should not be getting that kind of wage.

Agreed.
Sir Alex is to blame for setting the precedent with all his overpaid squad players though.
If Lingard falls out of favour with the manager then he will end up leaving the club for free because no other club would ever pay him that much.
And people wonder why we can never get decent transfer fees for our players!

Lingard deserves it.
3 winners at Wembley in a row for United now is it?
Excellent little player for the squad.

=============
"Garbage".
So not 'good squad player'.
Not 'improving first teamer'.
Not 'decent player'.
Garbage.
Brought through the academy by Fergie.
Given game time by LvG.
Established himself in the squad and first team by Mourinho.
Brought into the England fold by Southgate.
"Garbage".
What's wrong with you?

Ditto.
It's highly amusing how many times Arab, Stretty and Manc P can be wrong in just one article.
They should all change their usernames to Jon Snow #1, #2 and #3.

What a stupid comment.
All well and good in hindsight when he has had by far and away his best season in a united shirt. A yr ago very few united fans were behind lingard and he simply hadn't produced enough considering his age
