Head-to-head
Liverpool are yet to score against Southampton in three games this season, drawing 0-0 in the Premier League in November and losing 1-0 in both legs of the EFL Cup semi-final.
The Reds have also failed to beat Southampton in all three league meetings since Jurgen Klopp became their manager (D2, L1).
However, Southampton's only Premier League win in their last five visits to Anfield came in September 2013 courtesy of a goal from Dejan Lovren, now at Liverpool (D1, L3).
Liverpool
They have earned 20 points from their last nine matches (W6, D2, L1), second only to Tottenham over the same period.
Nonetheless, they are in danger of recording successive league defeats at Anfield for the first time since September 2012.
Jurgen Klopp has an identical record to predecessor Brendan Rodgers after 65 league games in charge of Liverpool: W33, D18, L14.
There have been a league-high 208 goals scored in those 65 matches under the German, an average of 3.2 per game.
Liverpool have scored 16 Premier League goals in the 15 minutes before half-time this season, more than any other side.
Klopp could, for the first time, name the same Liverpool starting XI for a fourth successive Premier League game.
Southampton
Claude Puel's side have only taken two points from nine games this season against sides in the top six prior to the weekend fixtures (D2, L7).
Saints have won three of their last five Premier League away games, following a run of only two victories in 12.
Seven of Southampton's 11 Premier League wins in 2016-17 have come on a Sunday.
They must win their remaining five matches to avoid finishing the season with their lowest points tally in four years.
Manolo Gabbiadini scored four goals in his first three Premier League appearances but has subsequently failed to score in four games, managing just one shot on target.
Claude Puel is unbeaten in all five competitive matches as a manager against Liverpool (W3, D2).

You think we're going to lose every game anyway, so it's irrelevant what you think.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
not as irrelevant with most of your comments. if it was up to you we would still have Rodgers in the dug out.
Facts don't lie these players repeatedly bottle it when it really matters. this started with Rodgers and that villa semi-final
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Resorting to making things up, nice one 👍 I didn't complain when Rodgers was sacked. You seem to be confusing supporting whoever is at the club with blind faith. I'll take my optimism over your relentless negativity any day.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
good never be disappointed with results then. We all remember your constant defence of Rodgers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Now you're just being stupid. You can be glass half full before and during a game, and then still be disappointed if we don't win. It's not that difficult to understand.
And you're still making things up. I said at the time the club were right to let Rodgers go, so why are you suggesting otherwise?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
but before he got sacked you was not though. do not even deny it we all know you still wanted him to have time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Again, it's called supporting whoever's at the club. It's not something I'll apologise for, so not sure why you're acting as if you've caught me out. Simply put, I'm not as fickle as people like you. You'll demand a player leaves the club if he misplaces a pass and then have him as a club legend when he scores a goal. All within one game.

really show me a post where I have done that. I will say it again this team is a bunch of bottlers and that is my observation ever since that fatal slip of gerrard. if you can't cope with that well that is up to you but don't come up with rubbish I think we will lose every game or change my mind about a player over a pass.

You're the epitome of negativity on every match thread. If we're 1-0 up, we need two, if we're 2-0 up we need three etc......

Some of the players and especially the manager had shockers today.
A completely sterile performance and a terrible result at the end of 90 plus turgid minutes.
Origi had little service, but his overall contribution has been dreadful over the last few weeks. Yes he's young, but against tight defences he offers absolutely nothing. Keeping him on for an hour made my eyes bleed.
Klopp's team selection and refusal to make changes early played a big part in what happened today.

We've been playing too slow, too many touches, always backs to goal for a while now.

Agree 100%. Left 5 minutes early to avoid the traffic. Also glad there was no Corbyn banner.

We have a quality first eleven but when one is injured like Mane we are facked. Mane is the player which makes our team play the quick attacking style. When he is not there we look poor and slow in attack . When Studge came on we were much better as he has better movement and run the channels unlike the rubbish not so clever Origi.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I like Mane but we shouldnt be rellying on him, these players are good enough to get wins.

Our results when it have mattered have been awful. Lost the title race in 14, lost the two finals last year and on course to lose the top 4 race this year. No wonder we do so well at the start of the season. Zero pressure means our fragile players play well.

Spot on.

>>Lost the title race in 14
that's a little unfair
we won something like 13 must win matches in a row to get to that position
