SKY & the TITLE - Chelsea 'off message'?

No fairytale or "Cinderella Story"™ then this season.

No plucky underdogs or end of a long wait for eventual triumph.

No big story of epic achievement.

Very disappointing if you work for SKy or support Tottenham Hotspur.

Is it just me or did anyone else notice that Sky Sports (particularly the commentary team of Martin 'Newton Heath' Tyler and Gary 'Neville Seville' Neville) seemed collectively underwhelmed by Chelsea's TITLE triumph??

Watching the match last night I was struck by the strikingly low-key nature of the coverage by the arch purveyors of hyperbole.

When Chelsea scored, the very muted response from Tyler and subsequent air of disappointment in his voice was palpable. Neville was much the same, praising Chelsea through gritted teeth.

Clearly, Chelsea hadn't followed the 'Murdoch' script.

From the off you had a sense that the Sky team were willing West Brom to win to 'BLOW THE TITLE RACE WIDE OPEN - AGAIN!!!!' and take us into the last round of matches with 'ALL TO PLAY FOR - AGAIN!!!!'. Pulis and his team being cast as the pantomime villains / ultimate party poopers.

This, emphatically, didn't transpire.

It's obvious that the network now has a few dead games on their hands. Spurs v United could have been massive but now has the significance of a pre-season friendly.

Now it's all done and dusted, expect the hype to kick in over 'THE RACE FOR 4th' at the top and the 'BATTLE FOR SURVIVAL' at the bottom.

Congratulations to Chelsea. The best team wins the TITLE.

The fact that their main challengers fell away, again, must be gutting for the SKY TV executives and supporters alike.

Ratings are all.

But real football triumphs.

Chelsea fans are the football equivalent of benefits cheats, they want and expect money to be continually thrown at them and fully believe that somehow its their entitlement. With their vulgar oil lottery win they will inevitably have success but it means nothing.

Tottenham are the football equivalent of a hard working man who is trying to provide a better life for his family in the correct way and making progress every year in doing so.

Yes. Spurs can have the moral trophy then It's heavy, very shiny and full of divots... made of fools gold.

Seriously, get over it, mate. Spurs are a rich club, too... but they just don't have what it takes to win a big trophy. The players have a weak mentality and the manager is laughably overrated. It's as simple as that.

It's fair comment, nobody other than Chelsea fans would really have wanted them to win it. Unlikable club bankrolled by an oligarch writing blank cheques, added advantage of no Europe etc. They've done well enough but it's hardly an incredible achievement is it.

Oh how cute...a couple of bitter buddies from the non achievers Spurs and Liverpool

Chelsea or Man City winning it just doesn't have any magic to it unless they win it in a dramatic fashion (for instance).

Were Tottenham or Liverpool to have won it then it would have been a far bigger story and rightly so, as it would've been far more of an upset.

And when was the last time either of those two team did win it?

Even I could never have imagined my article would spawn such a comment. This goes straight into the "JA606 Hall of Infamy"....!!

Truly surreal and disturbing stuff.

SKY reports that the race for 4th is "hotting up" as serial underachievers Arsenal take the lead against the mighty Potters!!!!!!!!!!!!

To be fair, it's been done for weeks if not months.

Was just a confirmation of what everyone already knew..hardly dramatic, difficult for the neutral to get too excited about.
