I hoped to do this review last week, but although the game was released last Wednesday, Amazon failed to deliver despite pre ordering over a month ago.
So I waited for Amazon's revised date (Saturday) which came and still no game despite the game now being in stock and available for next day delivery I now had a revised date of Tuesday.
Amazon were taking the pee, so I cancelled my order and ordered from Tesco, although it said 4 to 5 days, it arrived today less than 24 hours after the order, fair to say Amazon will not be fulfilling anymore of my gaming needs.
Ok rant over, back to the game.
Farpoint is a fairly standard shooter, crash landing on an alien planet (very mars like) with wind blowing dust around, you make your way through the landscape in a very linear fashion, there is no exploring (at least not that I have found yet)
The Graphics are good if a little soft, probably down to the needs of VR, but they are more than acceptable, and the game itself is smooth and responsive with VR doing it's magic in putting you slap bang in the middle of an alien world.
So far an ok VR experience, what sets this game apart is the new Aim controller, a controller that has all the buttons from a Dualshock 4 mapped onto the rifle in very well thought out way, which also includes rumble and of course the addition of a trigger.
The two joysticks has one situated near the front, for moving forward, back, left and right, the one at the rear of the rifle allowing you to turn with movement soon becoming second nature.
In the game, your Aim controller becomes the gun of choice, which follows your actions very nicely indeed, it is simple enough to hide behind a rock and shoot blindly over or around the rock, luckily the gun has unlimited ammo, but it does rapidly overheat, so a little thought is required.
I have also found a shotgun which again is very satisfying to use with the new controller, but does need reloading. and swapping between the two is a simple matter of raising the gun over your shoulder, (like you are reaching for a gun in your backpack)
Accuracy is very good. and it really is very natural to use, when the spider creatures jump at you, it is instinctive to pick them off mid flight, something you wouldn't get using a DS4.
So all in all a great experience, the game isn't anything special, but add VR and the new Aim controller and suddenly you are fighting to survive on an alien planet.
Anyone with VR I would highly recommend this game, as long as you play it with the Aim controller (it can be played with a DS4) but it's just not the same.
One last thing to note, this is not a game for those new to VR, If you have not gained your VR legs, this game will soon have you suffering motion sickness, fortunately I am pretty used to VR now, so it's affects were slight, but I could imagine if I had tried this as my first VR experience, I would have grown nausaus very quickly.
So unless you are blessed with a strong constitution, it would be wise to gain your VR legs, and work your way up to this.
In summary The Aim controller is a great addition to VR, If you have PSVR, this is a worthy addition to your collection.

Nice review Amiga. I've just watched the video trailer and it looks ok.
If they ever make a VR version of Doom - that would be something spectacular...!

Glad you liked it Stars
The aim controller has real potential, I was thinking how great it would be to see a Resident Evil 7 patch for the device.
