Who's going to Stevenage Tomorrow?

I go to Stevenage every day, I say go there, I live here so technically I suppose I only go there when I've left to go somewhere else first.

Technicalities aside I'm looking forwards to the game tonight, but it will be very strange. When all is said and done I guess I count as a neutral tonight since I don't like seeing either of these sides losing

You won't be on your own Kitty, the away stand seats about 1,500. As of the club press release this morning (http://www.stevenagefc.com/page/LatestNewsDetail/0,,10839~2448493,00.html) there are only 200 left so you should be in good company.

Gonna be brutal tonight. Not necessarily physical but doubt they'll be more than one or two passes to feet! By either side!

I wondered how long before that old stereotype was out. Stevenage are a good footballing side for the front 6. They have pretty good attacking wing backs to in Laird and Henry.

Problem is most of the balls are humped forwards massive and long by the centre-backs and goal-keeper. It's rare to see a rolled out ball to the wing backs or a ball into the feet of the midfield. Which is a shame, we'd play better football with more of that.

I recently read them described as the 're-incarnation of a John Beck team'.

That's a grim comparison.....

Had to google him, sounds a bit harsh to be honest.
They are a bit strong and fit side but they aren't just that. They can play some lovely football (like against Newcastle last year) but like a lot teams have a tendancy towards the longer more direct style when nervous or under pressure.

They play their best and look most dangerous when working the ball to midfield on the floor and using the flanks. Sadly the all to often only comes about sporadically following picking up the pieces from a long ball down the middle battled for by the strikers. As I've said I think they'd be a better outfit with more distribution via the full back, and more balls into the feet on the midfield instead of over the top and then pick up the pieces.

It's funny how much it varies, I've come away from nil-nil games with a sore neck from craning upwards following the ball in the sky and wondered why I bother. Equally I've came away from the 0-0 against Chesterfield last season having watched two good sides trying to play football against each other. It was an excellent game of football, one of the best 0-0s I've seen.

Told you they weren't just a long ball team! Great effort by the away fans to keep cheerful and positive despite the dross that was Wednesday in the first half. Hope you enjoyed Our Mutual Friend, there were enough of you in there, took me 10 mins to get a pint.

Hey Pat, the pub was the best part - as is often the case watching the Owls. Wish our players had some of the Stevenage attitude - we might have made a better fist of it then. You can rely on the fans, same as you can rely on the team to let us down . Hoping for a better performance on Saturday.
