Left Back

Good evening Liverpool fans,

There are rumours circulating that a certain Gael Clichy may be in the frame for a Liverpool move. What are our thoughts on this and the left back position as a whole?

I think that Clichy is no upgrade on Moreno. I do expect to see Milner continue at left back next season. So would we simply be looking to move Moreno on and bring Clichy in for the cups and Europe?

On another very important note - Clichy really likes the 22 shirt. So does Mignolet... I can't see it working.

Also, Sessegnon has been linked, another young left back.

What are our thoughts on the position and the rumours?

Moreno will be played further up the pitch the same way Gareth Bale was for Tottenham Hotspur's.

Can see him bagging us 15-20 goals next year with an equal amount of assists.

If I was Klopp I would be trying to get Lahm out of retirement for a year

I feel even with Klopp and CL the attraction of the very best players is ging to be incredibly hard to get. London is a big pull and i reckon it probably to big at the mo esp with 2 London clubs in the Cl and City (oudles and oudles of money) also in there

Clichy is extremely unlikely imo. He effectively retired in terms of effort when he got his City contract.

Sessignon I can't see as a signing, leave Milner where he is whilst the younger lad learns. Unfortunately I think he'll end up at Spurs

Clichy isn't an improvement at all. And especially now Liverpool have CL (potentially, or at least some form of Europe), they need quality, seasoned professionals. Not pensioners or teenagers playing unless they are good enough, which neither Clichy of Sessegnon aren't.

Rodriguez would be a good choice left back if Liverpool wanted one, although looks like he's off to AC Milan. Just a good or experienced defender would be good for Liverpool right now, no point taking chances.

Also just to point out, in the OP it says Clichy would be used for "cup and Europe". In the context, it sounds as if the OP is saying that cups and European competition will be a secondary focus? What's the point in working so hard to finish in the top 4, if your going to dismiss the Champions League (or Europa League)? Why work so hard to get there and not make a good account of yourselves and set targets? If Liverpool can build a bigger squad, they should be able to compete in the league, Europe and cups, shouldn't they?

Rafinha Alcantara has also been linked with Liverpool recently. He would be a good acquisition.

What would be the point in replacing Moreno with Clichy, who is like 50, when Moreno still has time to learn and improve.

Mendy probably off to City. Rodriguez is off to Milan. Clichy is rubbish.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Ryan Bertrand would be a great buy. Who cares if he plays for Southampton, there aren't many better left backs out there, especially a full England international and premier league experience.

I'd certainly take him at United. Very good player.
