He's a quality defender, I want him at United, and among the best in this league. But suggesting he's on a different level to anyone in this league is stupid. He's clearly not.

Who said by fair darren? he's a superb player, type of defender that don't come around too often. You suggested Toby was, whereas I'd agree in the context of being in a superbly drilled and balanced side he is, on raw ability im not so sure. Transpose then, would the result be different? Both are good, and we should make up for liverpool's devil dealing naivity.

It's not even close dude. Even Jan vertonghen was better than Toby this season. In any case, van dijk has him beat in the air, name me another top defender who is as dominant? Passing range of both are on the same level, but van dijk can cope with strong defenders better aswell. Alderweireld had many ok-games after he came back from injury and was a bit error prone/not his usual composed self.

Van Dijk is the best in the league. If tou disagree, name me one defender who's as good in the air and good against strong/technical players, has a superb passing range, can build up from the back, can dribble, can read the game superbly (hence he resorts to interception more than tackling), and a genuine leader. There is one name, Vincent Kompany. vvd is basically a younger version who's just as good, just not as experienced.
