Have we spent well in recent windows?
I ask as despite our huge outlay there is still a great deal of uncertainty surrounding the squad.
GK - If DDG goes i am not sure Romero is good enough to replace him. That could mean another keeping having to bed in.
LB - With Shaw seemingly unfancied and Rojo looking far better at CB, do we need another LB? Blind is a better midfielder in my opinion.
CM - Whilst Pogba and Herrera are quality, Carrick will have to be used sparingly so beyond them 3, we don't have great opinions. We therefore in my opinion need at least 2 CM's this window.
LW - Whilst we have Martial, Rashford, and Young who can play from the left, none are the typical beat a man and get a cross in winger. Obviously we have been linked with Perisic, another player with no prem experience, but is he good enough?
CF - With Rooney rumoured to be off, Even with Martial and Rashford used centrally, out options are pretty poor if we want to challenge for the title. A top CF is therefore a priority.
So, with 5 potential positions in need of reinforcements despite our major recent spend have we spent well in recent seasons ?

The Shaw thing might be fitness but it's also down to injuries and management. Notice he was a different player under Poch before injuries. Mourinho will not get the best out of him. Arguably, he bullies players he doesn't rate.

We arguably still need:
- 1st choice LB
- Back up RB
- Carrick replacement
- Another CM squad option
- 1st choice ST
- One forward with the wow factor (who's our Hazard, Sanchez, Coutinho etc.)
So no, we've spent horribly. I mean where has that half a billion gone?!

I think we have overpayed but we have a lot of quality. The problem is we lack in the striking department as we have potential rather than the real deal.

Shaw has been very inconsistent at United. But I don't know what kind of eyes some people have if they think is in incapable of attacking penetration. Before his injury he was playing well in combination with Martial. He's not a sumptuously skilled footballer but his pace combined with a scampering sort of nous had him playing some effective triangles that ended up with him with the ball at his feet in the penalty area. There were glimpses of this when he got back into the team at the tail end of this season. It's possible he'll wilt under the challenge that Mourinho hoped to get him to step up to. It's possible he'll never fully recover psychologically from the doubts created by that horrific injury. But this stuff that there's no chance he'll contribute in attack is the usual internet forum gobschite thing.
