Changes for football

Don't agree with 2 halves of 30 minutes, clock should be stopped anyway when ball out that solves the time wasting issues straight away.

Do like the penalty goal idea.

em, what is player breaks leg with 3 mins to go, are you then going to penalise the oncoming substitute?

I think you're on right track, but needs a little more thought around it. The drawback will be you'll need more and more admin staff to govern that as clubs will claim a player was injured, who will look into that and check it etc.

Late response from me, but the system kept rejecting my 'spam' contributions. Thanks to admin for sorting it out.
Jonty, I almost agree with you but I'd say a lot more thought needed. I'd just dreamt it up after all. RadebeTedd, it would entirely be down to the team's coaching staff to decide if an injury was serious enough for a replacement (as it is now). But any player taken off in the final 10 minutes couldn't play in the next match, to avoid fake injuries. (Who remembers the fake injuries when subs were first introduced? – when tactical changes were not permitted). The sub coming on wouldn't be penalised in any way.
Can't say I'd be too concerned about overwhelming the FL with admin tasks. I'm sure someone could write an app to look after it.

em, I think you'd have so many occurrences of clubs disputing that you'd then need people to review appeals, it becomes unworkable, best ideas are the simple ones.

The premise of wanting to stop time wasting is a good one, but someone comes off with 3 mins to go, authorities penalise that team, then team argues that player felt a tweak in hamstring etc etc how do you prove there wasn't a genuine concern?

Its a good idea, just wondering how to keep it simple.

No substitutions in the last 10 minutes unless off serious injury!.(I think even a ref can see whether or not its serious!)

Serious injury's cant be faked so I think a serious injury would mean that player missing next game and probably more!..

"Try reading the whole comment Jonny, not just half of it."

How do you know I did not? I just chose to quote some of it.

Are you referring to this part?

"The players team have to remove the player from pitch within 30 seconds of ref calling for them and they have to stay off the pitch for 2 minutes."

So much material here...

1) "30 seconds?" What if the player is unconscious? What if it is a head injury, or a suspected fracture?

2) "stay off the pitch for 2 minutes." Star player gets hacked and is injured and you want to reward the fouling team by keeping him off for 2 minutes?

Need to be realistic and think about the various scenarios before mandating certain actions.

Pat Nevin "This method would mean there is no point in wasting time, because the clock is stopped anyway. Players would not bother doing it anymore."

Does he realize that players engage in certain practices not only to waste time but to break the other team's momentum or give himself and/or teammates to regain their positions or team shape?

"Serious injury's cant be faked so I think a serious injury would mean that player missing next game and probably more!.."

What happens if their is an international break and the next game is in two weeks? What if there are 3 games in the following 8 days? Would the suspension be the same number of games?

Jonny, have you read what I wrote?..

Read the whole comment Jonny, you'll see the mention of serious medical issues caveated.

Clearly no room for different views here.

If one has one, he/she did not read what the disagreeing poster wrote.

Perhaps you have not read my whole comment, eh?

On a serious note, perhaps you chaps should define "serious injury?"

Or do you mean an obvious serious injury - Alan Smith's broken ankle, Alf-Inge Håland after that animal deliberately tried to hurt him?

Some injuries appear really serious initially and others do not but the player ends up being out for weeks or months.
