It's Friday ladies and gentlemen.
Arguably the best day of the week. That day when you know the endless torment of work is over for another week, and you can't cast off the drudgery of the workplace and enjoy the glory that is the weekend.
Although if you work weekends it's probably not quite as good.
Anyway, what could possibly make a Friday better I hear you ask? Why, it's only DUFC News, that's what!
The Championship fixtures have been announced and United begin their league campaign with a trip to newly relegated Inverness. It's a tough start to our second season in the division and it'll be interesting to see what shape both our teams are in. QOTS are the first visitors to Tannadice then we have our, ahem, big, ahem local, erm, derby with Brechin the following week, again at Tannadice.
The festive fixtures are Livingston at home on 23 December, St Mirren away on 30 December and Brechin at home on 2 January.
The league campaign concludes with a home tie against Livingston.
But what will our team look like by then I hear you cry? Good question folks, and thanks for asking.
We've had transfer news this week, and the big(gish) story is that Ali Coote has departed Tannadice for the Brentford second team. As you may be aware, Brentford have ditched their youth system and now snap up players who have been released from Premiership clubs and snap up other young talent.
Needless to say this has caused consternation among the United support, another young talent going south before they've established themselves in the United first team. Personally I'm actually non-plussed about this one. Ali Coote at one point looked like he was going to be the next big thing. He's now 19 years old - admittedly still young - but he has never looked like making the breakthrough, even in the worst United team in living memory. He's another player who never kicked on. Arguments can be made about the state of United's youth system and the way we develop players - and justifiably so - but in the here and now the loss of Coote is not going to impact our team in any great way.
The loss does again highlight the need for bodies to come in. Willo Flood signed an extension this week as did Stuart Murdoch (not sure how I feel about both these things btw) and Keatings signing was confirmed. Seen suggestions of Paul McMullan coming in from Celtic - wide player I believe.
Not sure what's happened to the signing of the lad from Ayr. With Murdoch signing on again (apparently he's now permanently a right back) and Ballantyne coming through it may not happen. Seemed a certainty a month ago.
Elsewhere the tickets for the Dundee game goes on sale this morning. My old man should be acquiring them at some point today for us. These are priced at £20 while the games at Tannadice are priced at £10.
I think that's covered everything going on. Hopefully we'll see a few signings in the next week or two to give us a full team for the season ahead.

What do you make of the Billy King signing Ivan? He didn't get a decent run of games at Rangers but think he could do well for you, especially in the championship

Hopeful about his signing more than anything.
From reports he seems to be a player with ability but he's a bit hot and cold. Seemed to do okay when he broke through at Hearts, didn't really impact at Rangers or ICT though. Hopefully he'll find a good home at Tannadice and get a run of games.

He should be able to cement a place in your first 11 if he can get some return of form. Like all players of his ilk it's all to do with confidence. Genuinely hope you get promoted this season

Good to see United getting rid of most of the deadwood in the team. Quite hopeful of the signings so far but we need at least another half dozen more new faces.
Spittal signing for Partick is a bit of a minter and shows again how far we've fallen.
Ivan what do you think of Flood getting a new deal? I'm not sure myself, bit of a headless chicken these days.

Tend to agree to be honest.
I like his energy and the way that, when he's playing well, he can drive the team on to win the ball back quickly. But too often he just charges about the park and he leaves the midfield very unbalanced and exposed.
I like guys in the midfield who are good on the ball. I want to see the team get the ball down and pass it this season. The hoofball stuff last season was soul destroying. Willo getting a new deal doesn't fill me with hope on that front.
