Been watching the England U21s at the EUROs and although Chilwell has been ever-present Gray played a bit part in the first two games but got his chance last night with a start.
That being said he started up top on his own and not in a position he has played in before for Leicester. I think its always been presumed that Gray would be the Mahrez replacement on the wings.
His performance last night was excellent capped off with a goal and an assist. He has all the attributes for the roll so could he be the answer to who will take over the No.9 from Vardy over the next couple of seasons or do we still see his future in the wider positions?
Heir to the Vardy throne?

Never a number 9

He definitely needs to be playing as an out and out winger, not a wide midfielder.
If we play a 4-3-3 or a 3-4-3 we can keep players like Mahrez and Gray happy by pushing them further forward and relieving some defensive duties. Mahrez hates doing the defensive stuff thats why he is unhappy and wants to leave, with Gray not far behind.

He was excellent against Poland. Top goal, top assist, top prospect.

Watching Gray last night he was pretty impressive and linked up well with Chillwell. If the sky commentators
mesrs Tyler, Alan Smith (smudger), and Pearce say he was man of the match he must have been good.
Playing for City last season he had his brilliant moments
but tended to drift out of games, particularly when playing
for 90 minutes and he was starting to do that last night but then came to life again. He was good last night but it was aginst a pretty ordinary Poland team.
Be interesting to see if he retains his place in the Semi
and if he is played up front rather than wide. If Cantona
says never a no 9 he probably will be a brilliant one.
For those who can remember a certain G Lineker started
out as a wide man but he didnt turn out to be a bad
ceentral striker or natural goal ,scorer did he.

Interesting article and good observation. I think Gray is a talented footballer with huge potential, but right now he's also flawed.
He drifts in and out of games, doesn't read the play, and is a liability when asked to defend as a midfielder. It's up to him to work on his alround game and from what I hear in training, I think he will.
However, I don't think you can train a footballing brain, so it will be interesting to see if he can find a position where he's less culperble when not with the ball.
Maybe you're right and the number 9 position is where we can get the most from him.
