This is a thread off the usual topic of beating the manager but a distraction is probably a good thing. This is related to a recent request by Mr David Lloyd, club announcer as to the music played by the club on match days.

Mr Lloyd asked people to contact him and nominate music for the club to use for certain situations such as when the players run out and goals scored etc.

I understand that the club were looking for people to come up with new original ideas but...

....unsurprisingly, the answers were as follows

Wurzels
Chelsea Dagger by the Fratellis

How mundane!

First, people only want Chelsea dagger because they hear it on TV, lets not copy everyone else.

Now, as a huge music fan and record collector, I believe that the club needs to move forward in this respect. Yes, I know people like the Wurzels and that you cant buy tradition etc etc.

BUT, as this club is trying to move forward on and off the pitch, I believe we should trying to present ourselves as a forward thinking inspirational club. Not some sort of carrot munching parochial backwater which is really how we are seen. I doubt many players really want to be associated with the wurzels, not cool.

Bristol has a great music scene and has done for many years which makes it a travesty that we continue to pump out old Wurzels songs. Of course, new song can be created using samples of wurzels in order to keep that on board but we don't have to use the old style stuff. It doesn't look great and, I believe, it actually doesn't represent the city at all.

Bristol, is a modern day city, famous for many things that attract huge numbers of people to this city and I believe the club needs to use these to enhance the clubs image going forward whilst incorporating the past...slightly. We have already seen the use of our famous street art at AG, so why stop there?

With a new stadium on the horizon isn't it time we ditched the old image of straw hat wearing wurzels? Even cider itself has had a makeover in recent years and we should too!
