Captain Edward John Smith's salary

For your own personal records, please note, the maiden voyage of the Titanic was to be 62 year old Captain Smith’s last voyage before he retired. Very little is known about his actions on the Titanic after the collision, he was last seen on the bridge. Captain Smith went down with his ship and his body was never recovered.

Captain Edward John Smith's salary was a handsome $6,250 per year, and there was also a 'crash bonus' of $1,000 payable if any vessel under his command were not damaged during the twelve months.

That reckless abandonment cost many people their life - just to break the crossing speed record? The people who died should sue him.

He was on course to break the transatlantic crossing speed record, he was the quickest Captain of all time for a while, that shouldn't count against him.

What, you mean that one little bump that he had shouldn't count against his good record?

What I am saying is, Mr J. Bruce Ismay the chairman and managing director of the White Star Line, was held to blame for the loss of the Titanic. Not the Captain.

Don't worry he's not out of the woods yet, likelihood could happen on his last trip

Actually Capt. Edward J. Smith chose a longer slower route when he received ice warnings he again amended the route

Robinson Crusoe sailed from a dock in Hull where there is a plaque to mark the event.Mick Ronson, of the spiders from mars, had a commemorative stage there. It is being re-deployed and whatnot, but the cafe there has large paintings of him on the walls and such like.
Anyway, up the Arsenal! I sense a very strange season ahead..buckle yourselves in!

I should point out that the dock in question was built in 1775, but was filled in in the 1930's.It is now gardens and stuff.
