Happy Friday to all you beautiful people out there, and what better way to start your weekend than to catch up with all the wonderful goings on with your favourite Championship football club.
Let's start with the big signing news, and that's the arrival of Australian journeyman (can we call him that?) Scott McDonald. And for the record, I will not be calling him 'Skippy'. The Aussie signs to help bolster the attack after Keatings arrival and I have to say I'm delighted at the signing. As some clubs have proven this week, you need three strikers and we now have them. I'd personally like a fourth, but that's because I'd like us to play two up top.
Last week we were of course reliant on Matty Smith doing a job up top and it looks like he'll be doing it again on Sunday, with McDonald in the press saying that he isn't fit enough to start at the weekend. It'll be a big test for the young man and it'll be interesting to see how he does.
This of course brings us on to Sunday, and the trip across the road to Dens Park. Ultimately, having had a quick look at the group tables, I think we're likely to qualify anyway but I want a result. We as a club need a result. A draw will see us top the table and I'd very much like that to happen.
Dundee have done okay in this competition to date, and their new striker looks like he might be decent, grabbing a hat-trick during the week. If we keep him quiet then we have a good chance of getting something.
The Dees of course like to think of themselves as the big team in the city, but of course we all know that's rubbish. Their manager, the Sky Sports pundit Neil McCann, was in the local press this week slating their support for not buying season tickets. It's no surprise again that they have less season ticket sales than their great rivals, even though we're languishing in the second tier and have a number of supporters refusing to buy season tickets due to the chairman.
And of course their small club mentality was confirmed by their wishing a happy birthday to "'doon derby' hero Craig Wighton". The biggest game in the last 40 years for Dundee was that game. And that's because they are trophy virgins.
I'm looking forward to the game though and hopefully we'll be celebrating at Dens.
A final little point - there is a foodbank collection before the game. If you are going to the game remember to bring something for that collection.

Would a win for United on Sunday put McCann under a bit of pressure already?

I wouldn't have thought so, they all seem to love him at the moment.
I guess it depends on what he says during the requiem mass for the Dens Park Fox.

hope mccann gets them relegated.
then he can be like the rest of those whanks that go on telly and give it "aye the manager should have done this" while being a pure failure at it themselves.

We can draw and finish second... Ten points though would surely be enough especially given that our GD would be +8.
Feel sad at you're less than veiled dig at me calling him Skippy in my last article...

It wasn't aimed at you
One of my mates keeps calling him Skippy constantly and it's doing my box in
And you're right about the draw - totally forgot about the penalty bonus point thing

Aye. Bonus point would do it. Be a laugh if we won though...

Can't really see us winning if I'm honest but you never know in a derby. It would be nice to put them back in their place though.
