Mons has one very good point, that is being overlooked when telling him he’s getting embarrassing.
Even without Europe the squad as it is would not successfully defend or IMO get close to first place come the business end of next season.
Sorry but even allowing for the return of Pedro, Hazard and addition of Baka, the squad still lacks strength in depth or even improvements in the area of greatest need.
I accept that this could be remedied come the end of August. But if it’s not? Then the doom, gloom and even Conte walking is a very real possibility.
One thing (whether we want to believe it or not) that is very clear, is the Manager himself is trying to publicly tell the board to get more bodies in. He’s not appearing to be a happy bunny; and it’s not just the pre-season results imo.
Now whether he’s right or not, I do think it is understandable based on previous form why Mons is making comparisons between this pre-season and Jose’s last.
Forget Europe

No one is arguing that we don't need more bodies, the board, the manager and the fans agree on this point. But it's not easy in this market, every target seems to be overpriced atm.
I can't figure Mons out whether he is wumming or in suicidal mood. For his sake I hope he is just wumming

One thing that seems to be unmentioned, or perhaps unnoticed by me, is our subs bench from last season appears to be decimated.

It has, I think few promising young player will be promoted this season, Baker, Mosonda and possibly Bogs. Christensen has already been promoted given the his number 27 shirt for the next season. So it's not as bad as you may think

Nah, think we've done well this summer, all we need is WB's and the club have earned the benefit of the doubt that we'll get them come Sept 1st.
We haven't strengthened well enough to be considered a threat in Europe, that's absolutely true. If we make the Q/F's and don't lie down and die against one of the big boys we'll have done very well in the CL this year.

At very least depth (I think we need improvements) on wingbacks and Bakayoko available for the season will allow us to challenge for the title.

Thanks for actually engaging with some of the points I make

Premature concern, there is 4 weeks left in this window.
The club is amassing a financial war chest
Yes were are light , but its nothing another 3 possibly 4 players will not solve.
We will sign players , but it can't be denied that our preseason preparation has not been ideal.
This will have a knock on effect if we pick up any serious injuries and cannot field our strongest 11 in August and September.
I wouldn't read to much into our preseason results, but would expect us to start with a win against Afc at Wembley to get the feel factor going.
But to address Mons fears i simply do not subscribe to the view the club are not backing the manager and its all going to 5 hite
That is some which will be proven on the 1st of september

So...who have $puds bought....no-one, and let Walker go
Who have Goonz bought Lacazette...no stampede in that direction was there...
Utd...ok they got Lukaku...over paid for him, but that's nothing new for them, & he's still got to learn what offside is yet, Matic is Matic, & Lindelhof is unproven
City have potentially bought well with Mendy Silve Walker Edison & Luiz....i'll discount Danilo
Pool are still trying to keep their best player from Barca whilst buying Salah & Solanke
Sense of perspective needed I think....we did win the league at a canter

i cant be bothered to read posts from last preseason but ill bet they read similar to we have no hope at all maybe 4th place at a push but expecting top 6, see how that turned out. I think we have bought ok so far and sold some outskirt players for really good prices, although i am not as happy as some at the Matic deal, as he is far better than they have at present, so although not weakening us that much hell improve utd considerably.

I'd disagree with that. One real shining light out of United's season last year, besides the two trophies, was what Mourinho did with Ander Herreira. In terms of players who can do the donkey work for Pogba (which I assume is what Matic's role will be), Herreira was superb for them.
What Matic will give them is options, no necessarily an upgrade, at least in my opinion.
