A different outlook on it.
I've noticed the widespread opinion of the media on this one largely veering towards blaming Conte, but quite honesty his only mistake in this affair was giving a player ammunition to seek what he's really wanted for years - a reason to leave, and in light of his recent statements, a scandal that presents him as the victim rather than the offender (cos he's milking that aspect big time).
Amid his decent performances on the pitch in an era of player power, it's quite easy to forget he's been unsettled for one reason or another pretty much since he signed. As Conte allegedly put it back in December when tension was boiling between them, "it's always something". He's never seemed content in England, to our knowledge at the point of writing this he's the only player in the last two years to fall out with both Mourinho & Conte. From the horse's mouth, before the start of last season he wanted to cut and run after our 10th place finish.... the smoke is there, the fire is there, being in a position to demand a transfer isn't something he'll exactly be broken up about.
But the frustrating thing about all this is despite his whining he seemed to be an exception to the crowd in the sense his performances weren't too badly affected. He'd go through droughts but I put that down to the player's technical limitations, the effort was always there (even if it was focused on hassling opponents for his own fun). I never thought he'd be the type to go on strike off the whims of one man's personal dislike for him, which makes me think his desire to leave in general is as strong as ever.
The stars have aligned nicely for him, dare I say I can imagine him being delighted when he received that text. This has got echoes of the Charles N'Somnia situation at Newcastle awhile back, a player utilizing a PR backfire to seek what he really wants while scapegoating the manager. Just a different prospective on it, anyone else agree?

We could have still used Costa as an impact sub and not made this matter so complicated and use him until January if he is not sold this summer.

impact sub? Costa? It would never happen?

Funny how the media seem so happy to side with Costa in this scenario when all they've done for the last three years is criticise and try to demonise him. Now he's against Chelsea he's suddenly the good guy.

The Mail claiming they just flew out to Brazil and showed up on his doorstep.......insult to our intelligence.

I'm surprised one large piece of the jigsaw appears to have been missed (unless I missed it). DC says emphatically that in January he was on the point of signing a new deal with the club. It was virtually done and dusted. Suddenly all discussion stopped. Someone prevented the final agreement. Costa thinks it was Conte who later sends that ill advised text. Why ill advised? Because it needed being done personally.
Costa says he can prove all this.... And if he does, Conte will not come out smelling of roses.
No one knows anything and yet so many here getting hot under the collar over media here say.
Wahl is not a mate of mine by any means but all the abuse and personal bitterness directed towards him is ridiculous. He is entitled to say his bit, (as we all are) without these personal attacks for voicing an unpopular opinion. Shame on you... and you know who you are. Costa certainly has behaved badly, crossed the line for most fans here, but Conte as Gaffer and experienced, should have known better than to allow this to happen. Its his job too. He has a share of the blame for sure.

Tway..
You are going on Costa's reported version of events. As you rightly say there is so much we don't know it makes it impossible to understand and correctly evaluate the situation.
What we do know is that Costa wanted to leave Chelsea at the end of his first season with us and at the end of his second season with us and during his third season made it clear that he still did not like living in London.
This current situation is all to do with what happened between thebclub, Conte and Costa in January.
The text message is a red herring.

Exactly Biggish. Costa has been wanting out since day one pretty much it seems. I doubt he ever had any intention of being at the club beyond this summer anyway. He wanted to leave last summer as well.
The media have tried to turn everything on it's head here. Costa's behaviour is really poor, he's acting like a spoilt child who's used to getting his way all the time.
Personally I hope the club take as hard a stance with him as they possibly can since he refused to come back. Other players will be looking at this and thinking that they can do as they please regardless of any contractual obligations they're under if Costa gets his way here.

He could've played in a pair with Morata until January...& then gone to AM
Conte has made an error here

No one knows fack all about what exactly happened other than what biased and headline sendationalist journos have reported. Absolutely nothing officially from Conte or the club. So I will ignore all of the white noise bollox surrounding this ridiculous situation the same way I ignore all of the other media bullsheet and focus on what I do know. Which is that Costa has a contract with my club and he won't honour it for a reason none of us are privy to and nor should we be frankly. For this he is being fined the commensurate penalty. I can only blame him because imo he is the only one on the wrong. Player power at it's worst. The hideous face of modern football and I'm 100% behind the club.
