When we started playing 3421 last season it was pretty clear what we had:
The two outside CBs - Vertonghen and Dier - are both comfortable as traditional fullbacks.
The first choice wingbacks - Rose and Walker - had the pace and directness to boss their wing.
Pretty straightforward.
Walker was the most direct fullback we had - probably our quickest player - but he has now left, and in his place we have the technically better, but less mobile and direct Trippier as first choice.
Sanchez and Trippier
So what will Sanchez bring to this party?
By most accounts this boy is rapid. He will probably be one of the quickest player at the club, possibly even the league.
I have a feeling if he starts on the right side of the back three - with Trippier ahead of him - we will see a lot of him overlapping Trippier, providing the width and pace to stretch sides.
Trippier perhaps playing more like a right midfielder in a 433 than a wingback Concentrating on delivery rather than trying to beat his opponent,
Maybe I am just bored! It will be interesting to see how this fella fits in though, he is certainly different to what we have, so the dynamic will change somehow I guess
Sanchez - will he revolutionise our back 3?

Starting to get excited with our potential signings and team now with Sanchez and Aurier. Pretty sure Barkley and Sessegnon will come, and if we were to pull a rabbit out the hat and sign someone like Dembele then I'd be drooling. Unlikely to have so many players in of course but I can dream.
We'd certainly have pushed on from last season and have plenty of options.

Having a CB overlap the full back sounds like an absolutely terrible idea.

Tbf, I think people overlook how good Dier actually was at RCB. That position seemed perfectly suited to him, plus Dier is one of the quicker players in our team (not as nimble admittedly). I am sure Sanchez will go on to be a great signing, but lets not undermine another players performance again.

He is good there and should of played there sunday instead of being in midfield where he looked lost

Not when one of the DM's aka Dier can drop back. He does that well.

CMs in a 3421 are not Dms they are box to box and must have ability on the ball which Dier doesn't possess. He is good at dropping back, yes, hence why his best postions are RCB in 3 at back or a DM in 4231

I have a feeling the derogatory bid we put in for Martial was a shot across the bows to Man U regarding Danny Rose.
Between Chelsea and them there's no doubt we'd prefer to do business with Man U, so what better way of saying Martial has to be part of any deal for Rose than make known our interest.
May well be wrong but the timing of our bid was suspicious

I've never seen him play, question marks for me at the moment as the price suggests he's got serious potential.

It is a really unusual signing for us, paying so much for someone so young and inexperienced.
Poch must have signed off on it, and would be aware it will impact what he can spend elsewhere.
Half of me thinks we may have a Ledley King, the other half that he may be an Alton Thelwell

Very strange. One season of European football and from what I've read, Ajax paid about £4m for him. For what he'd cost I'm expecting him to be mature beyond his years. Let's wait and see but at this moment I'd have rather shelled out that sort of cash for an attacking player like Sane or Mane last summer, or even wave £50m at Schalke for Goretzka and Meyer and see if they'll take it.

As one of three CBs, not a pair.
Vertonghen was doing it from there in one of our games last season when Davies was in front of him, forget which one.
Just a musing.

The back three RCB position is Dier's to lose in my opinion.
I am just thinking out loud how Sanchez could liven things up if he is there with the none-too-lively Trippier.
