DUFC 3 AAFC 1

United eventually dispatched Alloa from the Irn Bru cup with two late, late goals which sees United into the next round.

I have no idea what round that is. Quarter finals?

Anyway, I wasn't at the game because I used the fact that I had the sniffles not to go and by all accounts I made the right decision as apparently it was horrendous. Which of course is the norm these days at Tannadice.

I know it wasn't our strongest team out but again the fact we've put in yet another inept performance - and from what I hear we were lucky to be level at the break - adds to my anxiety about the rest of the season and our managers ability to motivate and organise the players.

We need a run of good performances. We need a run where we dominate matches and look like we are capable of winning the league.

I have little confidence we'll get that.

Normally I feel a little guilty about missing a home game but I didn't this time. I was quite happy to miss it. That probably says it all about the standard of football we've been putting out at Tannadice this season so far. I want to be entertained at the football and we are not getting entertaining football at all.

Anyway, I think the draw is later this week. Maybe today or tomorrow?

It's probably worth noting that all the colt teams have now been pumped out, again highlighting what an utter shambles it's been to include them. Ditch this experiment. Ditch the Welsh and Irish teams. It's not adding anything.

I'm quite relaxed about it all.

I still feel we can greatly improve. I don't think St Mirren can. If we can reach our potential as a team then we'll do ok.

Really?

How narrow minded of you. St Mirren haven't started the season well yet still pumped you lot.

I think you should give more respect to the bigger clubs like St Mirren

but then I'm going to copy you and say Dunfermline cannot improve

I think there will be plenty of twists and turns this season in the Championship. I don't think any team is capable of stringing together a run of wins and each team will have a few dodgy results, particularly away from home.

Should have beaten Spartans by a cricket score. Scoreline totally flattered our fellow part timers.

Anyhow what are a magnificent team like Dundee United doing in this competition.
Surely they are too big to play such garbage teams like the Welsh and Irish.
Was it by special invite or something ?

Unfortunately we're pash Earl.

Just to be clear, this is nothing against the Irish and Welsh teams - it's just clear to me that we're being used to try and normalise cross border competitions to help pave the way for a certain couple of Glasgow teams to participate in other cross-border competitions.

Much like how the introduction of colt teams has been used to help ease the introduction of Old Firm colt teams into the lower leagues.

I don't like being used.

Unfortunately for them they can no longer be regarded as a top team, and you cannot put them up there with the Partick Thistle's Hamilton's and Ross County's of this World

Obviously a bit different for us as its a new challenge to play against different and better opposition.

Looking forward to a home tie (for once) in the next round and you never know who we might come up against.

I hope you get United at home.

That way I won't be tempted to spend a tenner to go and see United play in this diddy cup at Tannadice.
