Martin O'Neill

I appreciate its been a long while since his Celtic days but I'm interested in what Celtic fans think of the current day Martin O'Neill. I know a number of Celtic fans will be keeping an eye out for the Irish national team also and may or may not have seen our game against Georgia on Saturday night but it was truly brutal stuff tactically and we played a horrendous 'style' of football straight from the hoofball 80's that no one in Europe would even contemplate in this day and age.

Irish football media and fans are up in arms at just how bad we were and what appeared to be a complete lack of a game plan bar hoofing it high every time and retreating the entire team in the edge of our box trying to defend for 85 minutes after we scored. Georgia who are ranked 110th in the world were made look like Barcelona whilst our expensively paid management team of O'Neill, Keane and Walford looked on cluelessly and changed practically nothing, not even using our full compliment of subs.

Whilst I know we're not the best national team in the world we do still have a nucleus of Premiership based players who simply dont play like that for their clubs. O'Neill afterwards gave one of the most petulant spikey post match interviews attacking RTE's chief football reporter who was simply doing his job asking pretty basic questions about how we set out tactically and what was our game plan. Its inconceivable that a man of his experience whose had such success at Celtic and Leicester (even Villa) has deteriorated to such an extent that he could stand over that display, his team selections are littered with negativity with defensive plodders picked every time over the few half decent ball players we have.

WTF has happened to the man, is he just grown too old and grumpy and no longer enjoying the fruits of the game, not able to withstand the pressure that comes with International management. Unless he achieves a 365 degree mentality change we wont win tomorrow night and our WC hopes will be up in smoke and his contract wont be renewed and he'll effectively be looking at his second successive sacking!!!

We had 31% possession.

150 completed passes to Georgia's 568.

Show me the toaster.

I thought Georgia moved the ball about well in fairness, they did seem to have an eternity on it though.

I was trying to be positive, but I see you have Georgia on your mind

😊 a win tomorrow night and all will be forgiven, we're nothing but fickle.

Typical of O'Neill. Plays the same way regardless and often comes unstuck.
