Value of squads

I have just read an article by CIES Football Observatory, which states that City have the most expensive squad. They state that City's squad increase by 242 euro and United by only 66 euro. I would to know how they come about these figures, as United spent about £140 million on 3 players.

A loan usually means just paying all or part of the players wages.

A fraction of his actual 'worth'.

So he hasn't cost anything to acquire in that case then. Don't see the problem.

United have Ibrahimovic. Cost nothing in terms of transfer fee, so he'll be down as £0. He's worth a lot more than that though.

Ibra has no real transfer value, Mbappe's is supposed to be about £180m.

Yes but the report is about how much its cost to assemble the squad. It hasn't cost PSG anything (or a relatively small loan fee) to have him in their squad. It's not about player value.

The problem is there's no breakdown of the figures or a list of the players included.

I'd imagine it was the 25 man PL and/or CL squads, plus any players at the club that don't have to be registered.

I've got no problem with the criteria used as I think it's a worthwhile thing to report on. I just think their figure are way out, it would be good to see the breakdown.

City bought a lot of young players in the Summer and immediately loaned them out.

Also we have players like Sterling and Walker with sizeable add-ons based on success. Which figures did they actually use?

The players loaned out won't be counted on City's total. They aren't part of the squad.

Like last season, Mangala, Nasri, Hart, Bony etc... didn't count towards the total as they weren't part of the City squad as they were on loan elsewhere.

I remember this time last year, looking through the figures for United, and that seemed OTT, so I assume they have already included add-ons yet to be triggered. If its the same for everyone then its fair.

As long as their figures are correct, it would be great to see the breakdown
