Head-to-head
Liverpool and Sevilla's only previous encounter came in the final of the 2016 Europa League. The Andalucians won 3-1.
Liverpool
This is Liverpool's 10th Champions League campaign, and only their second appearance in the group stages in the last eight seasons.
The Reds have not reached the knockout stages of the Champions League since 2008-09, when they were eliminated by Chelsea in the quarter-finals.
Liverpool have won the European Cup on five occasions, more than any other English side.
They have won their opening group game in each of their last three Champions League appearances. However, they have failed to win any of their last five group games in the competition (D2 L3).
The Merseyside club beat Hoffenheim 6-3 on aggregate to reach this season's Champions League group stages.
Jurgen Klopp has reached the knockout stages in three of his four Champions League campaigns, all with Borussia Dortmund. He was a beaten finalist in 2013.
Sevilla
Sevilla are taking part in their fifth Champions League campaign. They have gone past the group stages in three of their four previous appearances but never further than the round of 16.
They beat Istanbul Basaksehir 4-3 on aggregate to reach this season's Champions League group stages.
The La Liga side have only lost two of their last nine Champions League games (W5 D2).
Only Marco Verratti (479) completed more passes than Sevilla midfielder Steven N'Zonzi (459) in last season's Champions League group stages.
This is Eduardo Berizzo's first Champions League appearance as manager. He took Celta Vigo to the semi-finals of the Europa League last season in his only previous European campaign as head coach.

It's crazy that every goal we concede is poor defending. Our defence must be pretty good compared to others when you take that into account as we seem to score much more than most teams.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
When we score it's because our attack is good.
When we concede it's because our defence is awful.
That's what simple people think anyway.

The only English team to drop points in the CL.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not fair to say it like that
Chelsea and United played weaker teams
----------------------------------------------------------------------
tbf Sevilla ended the stronger but we should have been out of sight, missed a pen too and their first was a gift from the donkey Lovren no complaints with their equaliser good goal.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I watched all first half and 30 % of second.
Can't believe you didn't win.
Hardly the shocking start some have said
That's the second toughest match in the group is it not?

no. We concede a lot even though we control games. Our defence leaks despite facing a lot fewer attacks than other teams. This is, in part, due to poor individual mistakes and a system that allows for it. Our defence NEEDS to improve. We can't pretend otherwise.

13 goals conceded already. I know you've had two extra games but that's a lot.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The five against City kind of skews that stat.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I know the sending off makes a difference even when it was an attacker but 5 is a lot regardless.

It's hardly a shocking result. Just frustrating that we didn't get what we deserved tonight. Going forward we are excellent, but individual errors and a lack of concentration and composure cost us the win.

Nobody is saying the defence doesn't need to improve. It was poor defending for the first goal for example. What I'm saying is that our defence didn't lose us the game. We limited them to three shots on target. We didn't take our chances. Also that not every goal conceded is a defensive mistake.

Our attack lost us the game today.

Slightly related but looks like Spartak Moscow will face some sort of punishment after tonight, one of their fans shot a flare at the ref. Our game v them behind closed doors maybe?

We have conceded too many but we have also scored 16 in 7 games and could have scored 25. With our best player playing 20 mins of those 7 games.

Hopefully. Games there are a cauldron of fire and why it's difficult to get into rhythm away in Russia.
